Building Work In the Library Over the Easter Vacation

Here is some advance notification of some building work that will be occuring in the Library during the Easter vacation.

This work begins on Monday March 26th and will be concentrating on improving facilities for users with disabilities. This work will include widening the doors to Media Carrel 2, Study Carrel 2.01 and the Library Staff Room.

The contractors will endeavour to keep noise and disruption to a minimum while this work is being carried out, but it will be necessary to block off the areas in question during the times when this work is being completed.

We apologise in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.

New Study Area in Open 3

The new study area on Open 3 - already crowded!

We’re pleased to announce the opening of a new study area in Open 3.

Work commenced at the beginning of the Xmas vacation to create new space by removing the partition walls from the old Science/Engineering Faculty Team office to expand the existing area, in addition to adding new wiring and ducting to improve and expand laptop provision on the floor.

We’re very delighted to say that work was actually completed ahead of schedule and that the area was declared open this afternoon – and within five minutes, students had already taken occupancy (as you can see from the picture above)!

It’s nice to be so popular!

Update on Library Building Work

Building work on Level 3 of the Library that was begun during the Xmas vacation is still on going but should be completed by the start of term on Monday (January 16th).

This work has so far involved the removal of the partition walls from the old Science/Engineering Faculty Team office to provide extra study space in Open 3, plus electrical work including new light fittings and ducting around the walls and under the windows of this new area which, when combined with some additional benching and furniture, will expand laptop provision on this floor.

Sadly this work has entailed some noise and disruption, with necessary closing of some study areas, but we’re sure you’ll agree it’ll be worth it in the long run – thanks for perservering with us!

Building Work in the Library During the Xmas Vacation

On Friday 16th December work will start on Level 3 to increase the number of study spaces available.

Therefore over the vacation period there may be noise at times and some areas of the right-hand side of Level 3 will not be available. Some PCs and power sockets will not be working, but these will have signs placed on them.

From Monday 19th December building contractors will be removing the partition walls from the old Science/Engineering Faculty Team office. Part of the entrance/exit area will be unavailable when these walls are removed from the building.

Over the rest of the vacation period, electricians will be installing new light fittings (to match the rest of Level 3) and new electrical ducting around the walls and under the windows of this new area. New furniture will also be installed in this area.

The Library apologises for any inconvenience this work may cause.
