Changes to Inter Library Loans

When requesting an Inter-Library Loan, you no longer need to obtain agreement from your department or  include an authorisation signature on the form.   However you must still sign the form yourself, as this is a copyright requirement.

Each member of the University has an annual quota, as follows:

  •  Staff & researchers = 40
  • Taught postgraduates = 10
  • Final year undergraduates = 5

All ILL requests are subject to the discretion of the Library & in order to be free of charge will need to be for material in support of the teaching & research of the University, so the service will not be provided for personal hobbies etc. unless you pay. If  you reach your quota, you will need to discuss any future ILLs with ILL staff.

Restricted Access to Services on Level 3

Owing to on-going necessary electrical work, there will be further restrictions to access of certain facilities and services on Level 3.

Virtually the whole of the public areas will be inaccessible to users, including the High Demand section. If you require a book from this section, you will need to request it via the library catalogue, and staff will endeavour to collect it for you within 24 hours.

We are aiming to relocate the self issue machines to a position near to the main Customer Services desk, which will be operating to its usual high standard of ‘business as usual’ (darkness permitting!).

The Level 3 printers shall be relocated to Level 2.

The current newspapers have been relocated to the Support Services office. If you wish to look at one, you will need to ask for it at the Customer Services desk. Unfortunately we cannot supply you with back issues, only the current papers.

The Open 3 study areas, the Reference Collection, the Media section, and Support Services remain inaccessible. Entrance to the Cafe 641 is still restricted to the foyer.

Signs will be posted directing users and visitors to such facilities as remain in operation on Level 3 and to alternatives on Levels 1 & 2, which are both now fully open and accessible. Level 4 is still accessible via Staircase ‘A’.

Thank you for continuing to bear with us during this time!

Building Work in the Library (Open3)

From today (Tuesday 17th) the ongoing electrical renovation which has been taking place in the library this summer shall begin to move upstairs to the Open3 section.

This will result in a significant reduction in the amount of study and working spaces on this level. Additionally, there will be no access to the Support Services desk-window. In order to pass on and collect Inter-Library Loans, serials and theses requests and such, you will need to do so through the Customer Services desk at the front.

Until Levels 1 and 2 are fully open, there are study spaces available over the Re-Sit period (23rd August to 7th September, 9AM to 6PM) in Lecture rooms J001 and J002 in the Edward Herbert Building.  PCS will also be available in the PC labs in the Bridgeman Centre and Chemical Engineering S006.

We anticipate that there is likely to be considerable noise and disruption during this process, and we apologise for an inconvenience this will cause.

We will keep you up to date with further developments as they occur.
