It has been designed and developed by the Library and is intended that further development will take place over the coming months to incorporate new features into the webapp.

Please note you will need to enter your standard University username and password to access the webapp when you access it. If you have any comments or suggestions about the Library webapp please use the “Leave feedback” option or email <bookworm@lboro.ac.uk>.

Calling all book-lovers! BookCrossing, the leisure reading phenomenon designed to encourage us all to read for pleasure has been launched on-campus. The Library, with the support of Imago, has placed wicker boxes of donated novels in three food-outlets: the Village Bar, Fuel Box (EHB) and Martin Hall Bistro. Look out for them!

Designed as a ‘read me then release’ me scheme, the way it works is that you take any book you fancy, then, once you’ve finished reading it, pass it on for someone else to enjoy. To add to the fun, every book has been given its own ID number, so you can track its journey via the website.

To keep the scheme rolling we need more books! So, if you have any leisure reading books you’re happy to ‘release’, we’d really like to have them. We need your good quality novels (including graphic), and biographies/autobiographies/memoirs. Please drop them off at the Library and mention that they’re for the BookCrossing scheme.

Happy reading!

The Library will be re-launching its website on 9th February. The new site has been completely redesigned by the web team in Marketing and Communications and the Library. It has been developed using the University’s new content management system. This means the new web site will be visually more attractive, will allow information about library services to be accessed more effectively and be easier to update by Library staff.

Initial testing has already taken place with University students who were impressed with the new pages.

The coffee morning kicked off with plenty of glorious sunshine and tasty refreshments with the opportunity to meet up with former students and staff in the library. The event was held on Wednesday 28th September 2011, and was a huge success with over 40 guests attending and a further 20 signing up for Alumni borrowing cards.

The presentations were introduced by Academic Librarian, Charlotte Greasley, who welcomed the guests and was followed by Ruth Jenkins, the University Librarian, who talked about the library today and in the future. Afterwards, Jenny Clark, the University Archivist, presented a captivating demonstration of the Library throughout the years, which included several funny anecdotes. To round things off Charlotte gave a talk about the changing role of technology in the library and demonstrations and tours were provided.

The coffee morning is the latest in a series of events which the library has hosted during the past year to help celebrate the library building’s 30th full year in operation. The event was organised in conjunction with the Development and Alumni Office. Further information about the 30th Celebrations can be found here.

The first news story has attracted criticism and some news sites have stopped accepting comments. But what about the second news story, being able to ask the author questions is a good thing, isn’t it?

For interactivity closer to home, don’t forget to check out the “reviews and tags” feature on Library Catalogue Plus.

Wing Kai Alfred Leung studied BSc (Hon) Accounting and Financial Management and graduated in 2005 and his wife Jamie completed her BSc in 2007 and her Masters in 2010 (both at Loughborough).

Alfred said that “as Loughborough is the place we met and knew each other, we would really like to have our wedding photos taken there”. The photo shows the happy couple and Dr Graham Walton (Head of Planning and Resources in the Library) enjoying a (non-alcoholic) celebratory drink.
