Journal TOCs the easy way

At the end of March 2012 we said a fond farewell to the journals’ table of contents service, TICTOCs. Training in how to use TICTOCS had become a regular feature of the Library’s workshop for PGRs on ‘Keeping alert to new information’, with many appreciative users, and so we glad that the service has been replaced by JournalTOCs. The benefit of the service is that you can add the RSS feed of your favourite journal to a newsfeedImage of journals reader service, such as ‘Google Reader’, and it will keep updating with details of the latest issue without you having to do thing!  You just go and look at it, when you have time, and find out about all the latest articles.

If you would like to know more about JournalTOCs, then why not visit its website or if you are a PGR student come along to the next ‘Keeping alert to new information session’ on 17th May.  If you are not a PGR student but would like advice about how to keep up-to-date with developments in your research field, why not arrange to meet with your Academic Librarian for some one-to-one advice?

 

University survey on open access publishing

In recent years, open access publishing and the institutional repository have become significant developments for academic staff and researchers. At Loughborough, the Library and the Research Office are jointly undertaking a study exploring University attitudes to open access etc. The findings from this study will be used to further develop appropriate help and support for University academic staff.

It would be very helpful if you could find 5 minutes to complete the online questionnaire https://www.survey.lboro.ac.uk/openaccess/

It will be available between the 23rd May 2011 and the 6th June 2011. The questionnaire allows people to be entered into a draw for two £50 Amazon vouchers. Café Scientifique

The Graduate School is hosting an exciting meeting opportunity, Café Scientifique, this March aimed at research students across all faculties.

Café Scientifique is a forum to debate the latest ideas from all areas of research in Science, Social Sciences, Humanities and Engineering. This is a chance for PhD students to present their research to colleagues and academics in a relaxed, informal setting, with refreshments provided.

Professor Dennis Loveday will open the evening with a keynote speech, followed by four presentations from Loughborough research students. Presenters will take questions and debate their findings with the audience.

A buffet meal and wine will be provided as well as a cash bar so come along and chew the fat with other research students and academic staff.

This will be taking place at Burleigh Court on Thursday 17th March, from 5.30 – 7.30PM.
