We’re holding a one-day lecture capture conference in the Keith Green Building on July 3rd, with the theme:
Pedagogy, policy and support: taking lecture capture to the next level
The event is intended for academics, learning technologists, IT staff, and A/V managers with an interest in the use of lecture capture and screencasting technologies.
The packed programme will feature a mix of keynote presentations and workshop sessions. The workshops are divided into 2 parallel strands: (a) Pedagogy and Policy; and (b) Support. The latter will feature how-to sessions covering different platforms and technologies.
Confirmed presenters include Steve Rowett, E-learning Developments Team Leader at UCL, and Ian Pearshouse, lecture capture service owner at the University of Nottingham.
The price of the event is £70 for external delegates, with online booking / payment available at

If you’ve been contemplating giving lecture capture a go, you might be interested to know that we run regular ‘Introduction to ReVIEW’ staff development workshops. The next workshop takes place on Wednesday 24th April and places are still available.

Last week’s E-learning Showcase / Teaching Innovation Award event was a success, with around 70 colleagues attending over the course of the day. There were some thought-provoking presentations, notably by Laz Zindovic, VP Education of the Students’ Union in which he set out what students have come to expect in terms of learning technologies.
All the presentations were captured on the ReVIEW lecture capture system and will be edited and made available on this blog.
Participants were of course attracted by the quality of the speakers and presentations, and the fact that there was a free lunch was a minor consideration… Likewise the incentive of being entered into a prize draw to win a Kindle e-reader.
The lucky winner was Dr Peter Demian, Senior Lecturer in the School of Civil and Building Engineering. Here you can see a beaming Peter having just received his prize!
The E-learning Showcase 2013 will take place in Brockington Extension on Friday 1st February from 10am – 5pm. This year, for the first time, we’re running it together with the Teaching Innovation Award (TIA) presentations.
The outline schedule is as follows:
10:00am – 12:00pm E-learning presentations
12:00pm – 1:30pm Exhibition and buffet lunch
1:30pm – 5.00pm Teaching Innovation Award project presentations
The programme of the event is now available to view here (PDF).
We hope to see as many colleagues as possible and EVERY COLLEAGUE ATTENDING WILL BE ENTERED INTO A PRIZE DRAW TO WIN A KINDLE E-READER! We don’t expect you to attend from start to finish (although you’re very welcome to); just drop in and take a break from your marking.
If you are on the New Lecturers’ Course, attendance (even for part of the day) counts as a CPD activity.
This week I gave a short presentation on ‘Quick Learning Technology Wins’ to a group of Programme Directors and LT Co-ordinators within the School of Social, Political and Geographical Sciences at the request of the Associate Dean for Teaching, Ruth Kinna. My starting point for this was that academic colleagues have many conflicting demands on their time, so it is not helpful if we promote tools or approaches that add significantly to this burden. Here is an expanded version of the PPT I used, with enough detail to make sense to anyone interested who wasn’t there.
These are not necessarily the most important things that you can do with learning technologies – but they do all have the advantage that you can introduce them without having to spend hours learning the software. That said, in some cases (for instance, exploiting GoogleDocs for collaborative writing activites), thinking time will still be required!
We have a variety of workshops and events coming up in January / February that you might like to think about registering for or putting in your Outlook calendar. Click on the links to view the session description on the Staff Development website. (Note to blog readers outside Loughborough: these are internal sessions only. However, we will be running a lecture capture workshop open to all in early March. More details soon.)
