Exploring Loughborough

7 June 2016

3 mins

After one month living in Loughborough I would like to show you some places in the town centre I really like.

First let’s talk about shopping:

Loughborough has two shopping centres. The Rushes, which is on the bus route from campus, actually looks more like a little shopping village as the shops are not all in one building.

You’ll find a huge supermarket which is open until midnight on weekdays but also a lot of clothes stores such as TK Maxx and Next.

The second shopping centre in Loughborough is called the Carillon Court and is located right in the middle of the town centre.

Loughborough is famous for its markets. The Vintage Market which is open every Friday from 8am, sells antiques, clothes, jewelry and much more.

There’s also the more traditional Loughborough market every Thursday and Saturday, where you’ll find fresh fruit and veg, and loads of other goodies perfect for a student budget.

Walking through Loughborough, you’ll notice lots of small, independent shops. From humble gift shops to intimate delis full of homemade produce, you’ll find things for everyday life at good prices.

What comes right after shopping? Exactly. Food! There are a lot of places in Loughborough. I will show you my favourites so far.

I really like Sonny’s Street Food. The restaurant sells amazing Thai food at really good prices. It also has a great atmosphere and leaves you feeling good.

In my previous post I already told you about the sign in Loughborough which says: “Try the worst Pizza one guy on trip advisor ever had in his life.” If you follow the sign you pop right into PETER Pizza another lovely place. Yes, I totally admit that I love to fall for marketing ploys. But it’s fine – the pizza is really good!

One last place where you can’t just eat but also see movies is the newly built Cineworld complex. Around there you can also find the Pizza Express, Nandos, Bella Italia and more to come.

Finally, I want to give you some recommendations for my favourite activity: Meeting with friends in a Café – having coffee, tea, cake, a smoothie or whatever you prefer. So far I’ve spotted two really nice places.

If you pass the church gate and follow the street you can find a few nice little cafes.

If you turn left you arrive at The Perfect Blend which is an amazing little coffee shop: Furnished with love and promising to serve the best coffee in town. In my opinion they might be right! Besides you can enjoy homemade cakes, breakfast and lunchtime snacks while sitting in a cosy living room.

The second coffee shop I really like is located on the market street and called Café Acacia. In a feel-good atmosphere they provide freshly made smoothies, afternoon tea and much more.

I hope you got some new inspiration where to go next. Enjoy Loughborough!
