Tana Utley, the Chief Technology Officer and a Vice President of Caterpillar Inc, came to Loughborough on 25 July, when the Chancellor conferred on her the honorary degree Doctor of Technology (Hon DTech).

One of the events scheduled for her visit was a meeting with women research staff and research students. 33 attendees from not only the Engineering Departments but all across the campus including Psychology, Finance, Accounting, and Business School, gathered to meet Tana to hear about her career within a large US corporation.

It would be interesting to hear researchers views about this event, and what individual researchers found useful. I found the similarities in senior managament roles within a large corporation or a large university interesting, and not surprising. Many roles across different sectors use similar skills and talents and personal attributes.
