Creating online resources: a look at tools used across campus to create interactive materials

Seminar Room 1 Pilkington Library 22 April 12.30-2.00

There are many ways to engage students these days from using voting tools in lectures to an interactive video with embedded quiz housed on Learn.

This joint CAP / Library event is an opportunity to hear about a range of tools you can use to create online resources. Speakers include Rachel Challen from Loughborough College who will talk about Articulate, Geoff Hodgson from Civil and Building Engineering on Camtasia, and Phil Wilkinson-Blake from the Business School who will talk about developing materials for the Futurelearn MOOC platform.

Whether you are new to all this or are interested in who is using what on campus you will have the opportunity to hear from experienced practitioners as well as engage in group discussions.

Light refreshments will be provided.

Please e-mail CAP@lboro.ac.uk if you’d like to attend so we know numbers for catering

Faulty PCs? Messy washrooms? Empty vending machines?

Don’t forget:

  • For problems with your own computer, visit the IT Services PC Clinic in the Library

Help! I can't find information for my dissertation

Finding information for your dissertation takes a lot of research, so if you’re struggling why not try one of the library databases? You are more likely to find better quality and relevant information from these databases than via a general web search engine.

Revision advice – on the go!

The Library’s study skills advice sheets have been available as PDF documents for some time now.

Earlier in the year, ePub versions were created so that they could be easily read on mobile phones. Whilst the files are available on Learn, we are experimenting with making them available via other channels too.

To get study advice on the go (i.e. on your phone), first download a reading app e.g. iBooks (Apple only) or Bluefire Reader (Android & Apple) from your app store. Then click on the link below to view an ePub version of the revision and exam skills advice sheet.

Leisure reading collection

Take a break from your studies and grab a novel. The Leisure reading collection (white label and pink dot) is next to the New Books stand and includes science fiction, crime, fantasy, horror, biography and graphic novels. There’s also graded readers which our international students may enjoy. You can browse in person or online.
