Google to Microsoft Switchover – the Countdown has Begun!
The upgrade from Google to Microsoft services is now in process. Emails have already moved to Microsoft Outlook, and we are now fast approaching December 1st, when full access to remaining Google services through your Loughborough student account will be removed. This includes Google Drive, Google Calendars, and Google Photos, among others.
Now is the time to back up your Google data to ensure it is not lost when access is withdrawn. The initial backup process is straightforward, and instructions can be found here: www.lboro.ac.uk/it/returners.
Please keep your data safe by storing it in a location of your choice. IT Services encourage you to make use of your new OneDrive for Business account, as it has unlimited storage and will allow you to access your files and data anywhere, on or off campus.
If you require further help, please visit the PC Clinic in the library, or email IT.Services@lboro.ac.uk. PC Clinic will also be hosting drop-in sessions near the end of the month, dedicated to walking you through the back up process. Details of the sessions will be posted on IT Services’ Twitter page (@LboroITServices) and ITS Announcements on the IT Services Website.
Freshers and Returners – Have You Checked Your IT Tool Kit?
Building Work in Level 3, Commencing 3rd July
On Monday 3rd July work will commence on relocating the printer/copier area in the middle of Level 3. This will involve the removal of the printers and the knocking down of the screening walls surrounding their location.
During this work a significant proportion of Level 3 will be unavailable to visitors, though access will still be open to the PC Clinic, the Seminar Rooms and Training Room 1. The printers from this area will also be unavailable for use during this time – if you need to print, photocopy or scan documents, alternative machines are still available on Levels 1.2 and 4.
This work will involve some noise and disruption. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.
Library Opening Hours During the Summer Vacation
As today is officially the last day of the 2016-17 Academic Year (hooray!) it seems like a good time to remind people that from next Monday, 25th June, for the rest of the summer the Library will be switching to its vacation opening times schedule. This is:
- Monday 9am-5.30pm
- Tuesday 9am-5.30pm
- Wednesday 9am-8pm
- Thursday 9am-5.30pm
- Friday 9am-5.30pm
- Saturday CLOSED
- Sunday CLOSED
Please note above that our only late(ish) evening opening is on Wednesday nights, and that we are closed entirely at weekends for the duration of the vacation (try saying that with a mouthful of ice cream!). Please also be aware that last entry to the Library is ten minutes before closing time, in order to allow staff to clear the building.
The IT Services PC Clinic in the Library is open throughout the summer, but only during the hours 11am-3pm. Outside these times the IT Services Help Desk can be contacted 8.30am-5pm (week days only).
The Library Shop will be closed for the summer, but the Library Café will remain open, 9.30am-3pm daily, dispensing breakfast cobs, coffee and sympathy for those who aren’t sunning themselves on a beach somewhere instead!
As usual during the vacation we will be catching up with a few out-of-season maintenance jobs around the building; we will keep everyone posted here and on our usual social media channels of when & where these will be taking place to minimise any potential disruption to visitors.

Don’t Panic! Exam Support on Campus

To that effect, the University have created a simple one-stop shop web site detailing all the study support and learning facilities available right now on campus, ranging from study spaces and computer labs to personal support should things start to get on top of you.

Campus Wireless Network Maintenance on 5th December
On Monday 5th December there will be an interruption to part of the wireless network coverage on campus. This is due to necessary electrical / air-conditioning work being carried out, that will involve moving equipment which is responsible for operating the wireless network on campus.
During the time approximately 10% of wireless access points will be offline. This will result in reduced or potentially no wireless coverage in some campus buildings. This work will take place on Monday 5th December 2016 between 07:30am – 11:30am.
IT Services apologise in advance for any inconvenience.
