Calling All Finalists – National Student Survey 2019

We’re extremely happy to report that, following the publication of the 2016 National Student Survey (NSS) scores earlier in the week, Loughborough University Library is sitting very prettily in equal third place in the overall mean score for Question 16, ‘the Library resources and services are good enough for my needs’. We received a total of 94% – a percentage point up on our scores for 2014 and 2015, in fact. Only Oxford and Cambridge University Libraries finished with a higher mark than we did!
It is extremely gratifying to receive such a glowing acknowledgement of the service we endeavour provide to students and all users of our facilities, in close co-operation and consultation with the rest of the University and the Student Union, with whom we have worked to help improve and enhance our services to suit your needs, including extending our opening hours, adding new PCs throughout the Library, putting in extra power sockets in study areas and improving the WiFi coverage in the building.
If indeed the NSS were an Olympic contest, there might not be enough room on the podium for everybody involved in this great success – nor enough bronze medals to go round!
The National Student Survey (NSS) offers final year undergraduates the chance to give feedback on their time at Loughborough.
No one knows the University better than you, so your opinions about being a student at Loughborough are really important.
By taking part in the survey, you can help future students decide where and what to study.
The feedback you give will also help to shape the University and the student experience, both for students who are already here and those who’ll join us in the future. The 2015 NSS will run from 1st February to 30th April.
It takes around 5 minutes to complete and it is recommended that you do the survey early as Ipsos MORI – an independent market research company, who manage the survey – will continue to remind you until you’ve completed it.

The results from this year’s National Student Survey have just been announced, and not only has the University as a whole scored very highly, but the Library itself has increased its score!
Information about the Library is surveyed under questions related to Learning Resources which includes questions about the Library and its resources & facilities (question 16), general campus IT resource & facility access (question 17) and specialist software & resources (question 18). This year the University score for this section has increased by 4 points to 92% – well above the national average of 85%.
On its own, the Library scored a whopping 93% for question 16 – which we’re all incredibly pleased with, as you can imagine! We take this as a sure indication that the University’s investment in our refurbishment last summer has indeed paid off (with interest!), and that all the hard work put into the building and improving our facilities and services has struck the right chord for all our users over the last 12 months, particularly with the finalists filling in the NSS. With the start of term and a new academic year only just over a month away, we’re all looking forward to working with you all towards further success in the year ahead. Bring it on!

The National Student Survey (NSS) 2012 has just been launched. Now in its eighth year, the NSS is your opportunity to give your opinions on what you liked about your time at your institution/course as well as things that you felt could have been improved.
Loughborough University achieved excellent results in last year’s survey, with 88% of students (out of a national average of 83%) expressing satisfaction with their course.
The NSS is a national initiative, conducted annually since 2005. The survey runs across all publicly funded Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in England, Wales, Northern Ireland, and the majority of HEIs in Scotland. Additionally, Further Education Colleges (FECs) in England and Further Education Institutions (FEIs) in Wales with directly funded higher education students are eligible to participate.
The survey asks final year undergraduates to provide feedback on their courses in a nationally recognised format, students on flexible courses will be asked to participate as they near the end of their course but not necessarily in their final year. There are 23 core questions, relating to various key aspects of the student learning experience.
