The British Library this week launched the British Newspaper Archive website, which will offer access to up to 4 million fully searchable pages, featuring more than 200 newspaper titles from every part of the UK and Ireland.
The newspapers – which mainly date from the 19th century, but which include runs dating back to the first half of the 18th century – cover every aspect of local, regional and national news, and is likely to be of immense use and value to historians and researchers.
The archive will be expanding over time, and is expected to contain the scans of up to 40 million newspaper pages over the next ten years. To find out more, visit the website here.
The Library has access to wealth of newspaper resources online, most notably Nexis UK, as well as the electronic archives of individual papers such as the Guardian & Observer, The Times & Sunday Times, and the Daily Mirror Archive, all accessible through Library Catalogue Plus.
