{"id":429,"date":"2015-05-07T18:33:18","date_gmt":"2015-05-07T17:33:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/copyright.lboro.ac.uk\/general-election\/?p=429"},"modified":"2016-05-13T13:25:14","modified_gmt":"2016-05-13T12:25:14","slug":"the-knives-are-out-in-closing-days-of-election-campaign","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/crcc\/general-election\/the-knives-are-out-in-closing-days-of-election-campaign\/","title":{"rendered":"The knives are out in closing days of election campaign"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Press partisanship returned with a vengeance in the closing days of the 2015 General Election campaign, research by Loughborough University has found.<\/p>\n<p>Since the start of the campaign academics at Loughborough have been conducting a\u00a0weekly\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lboro.ac.uk\/news-events\/general-election\/\">real time news audit<\/a>, lifting the lid on what media coverage the parties, their policies, MPs and their partners are securing.<\/p>\n<p>Their results show extensive negative coverage of Labour, with coverage of SNP also become appreciably more negative in the final stages of the campaign.\u00a0 Levels of positive coverage for the Conservatives have remained stable.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/general-election\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2015\/05\/CEZTbgKWEAE3NJ4.jpg\" rel=\"lightbox[429]\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-430\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/general-election\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2015\/05\/CEZTbgKWEAE3NJ4.jpg\" alt=\"Knives out\" width=\"481\" height=\"561\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/crcc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2015\/05\/CEZTbgKWEAE3NJ4.jpg 481w, https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/crcc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/23\/2015\/05\/CEZTbgKWEAE3NJ4-257x300.jpg 257w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 481px) 100vw, 481px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Professor David Deacon, one of the research leaders explains: \u201cIt\u2019s a knife edge election, so there\u2019s no surprise that the knives are out.
