{"id":589,"date":"2016-05-22T20:32:07","date_gmt":"2016-05-22T19:32:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/copyright.lboro.ac.uk\/crcc\/?p=589"},"modified":"2016-05-24T20:39:47","modified_gmt":"2016-05-24T19:39:47","slug":"eu-referendum-discover-whats-making-media-headlines","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/crcc\/eu-referendum\/eu-referendum-discover-whats-making-media-headlines\/","title":{"rendered":"EU Referendum: Discover what\u2019s making the media headlines"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>A real time news audit of the EU Referendum by Loughborough University is lifting the lid on what media coverage the campaign groups, political parties and their key arguments are securing each week.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Academics from the University\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lboro.ac.uk\/departments\/socialsciences\/research\/centres\/crc\/\">Centre for Research Communication and Culture<\/a> have conducted news audits for every General Election since 1992.<\/p>\n<p>The referendum audit is concentrating on the main news bulletins\/programmes on BBC1, ITV, C4, C5 and Sky, and all the main daily national newspapers. Coverage is analysed weekly, and the first report is released on Monday 23 May at 12 noon.<\/p>\n<p>The reports will provide commentary about the week\u2019s coverage and systematic measurements of which campaign groups receive the most coverage, the proportion of negative and positive coverage, which issues receive greatest prominence and the amount of coverage overall given to the referendum.<\/p>\n<p>The audit is being led by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lboro.ac.uk\/departments\/socialsciences\/staff\/academicandresearch\/deacon-david.html\">Professor David Deacon<\/a>,\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lboro.ac.uk\/departments\/socialsciences\/staff\/downey-john.html\">Professor John Downey<\/a>, Dr Emily Harmer,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lboro.ac.uk\/departments\/socialsciences\/staff\/academicandresearch\/stanyer-james.html\">Professor \u00a0James Stanyer<\/a>\u00a0and Professor <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lboro.ac.uk\/departments\/socialsciences\/staff\/wring-dominic.html\">Dominic Wring<\/a>,\u00a0from the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lboro.ac.uk\/departments\/socialsciences\/\">Department of Social Sciences<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking about the audit Professor Deacon said: \u201cThe media plays a crucial role in elections.\u00a0 For most people it is their primary source of information when it comes to deciding how to vote.\u00a0 Therefore being able to see who and what is making the headlines is very important.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The team\u2019s full reports and further analysis will be made available on the University\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lboro.ac.uk\/news-events\/eu-referendum\/\">EU Referendum\u00a0<\/a>web page.<\/p>\n<p>This press release was originally published on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lboro.ac.uk\/news-events\/news\/2016\/may\/eu-referendum.html\">Loughborough University website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<!-- AddThis Advanced Settings generic via filter on the_content --><!-- AddThis Share Buttons generic via filter on the_content -->","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A real time news audit of the EU Referendum by Loughborough University is lifting the lid on what media coverage the campaign groups, political parties and their key arguments are securing each week.
