Update to Staff PC task sequence to support Toshiba Portege Z30-C

The Windows 7 Service now supports the Toshiba Portege Z30-C. This model is based on Intel’s new SkyLake Processor and Chipset. This change has resulted in a number of challenges for the Windows 7 service.

Firstly, you will need to update your Task Sequence Media to the January 2016 from \\ws2.lboro.ac.uk\DesktopResource\Windows\W7\common\TaskSequenceMedia. This version includes the new SkyLake drivers.

In order to image a Portege Z30-C you will also need to install a new BIOS. The new BIOS and instructions can be found at \\ws2.lboro.ac.uk\DesktopResource\Toshiba\Tecra and Portege Z30-C BIOS v5-30.
The new BIOS allows you to use select Compatibility Support Module (CSM) booting mode that provides legacy BIOS compatibility. Unfortunately, once this mode is selected it is currently impossible to access the TPM chip, which means that Bitlocker encryption is not possible. We are working with Toshiba to attempt to rectify this problem.

The new task sequence will become live between 8:30 and 9:30 on Friday the 19th February. The new task sequence will be called “PC Staff Base”, not “Windows 7 Service – 2015-16 LIVE” as was the case previously. Please do not attempt to image a staff computer during this period.

Upgrade SCCM 2007 Certificates

Upgrade SCCM 2007 Certificates

The SCCM Certificate infrastructure needs to be upgraded from the old certificate authority to a new certificate authority. This is because the old servers are coming out of warranty.

The first part of this work is to issue a new SCCM client certificate to PCs from the new CA. This is done by adding PCs to the LBO-ConfigMgr Clients group. By being a member of this group, the PCs will enrol a new SCCM Client Cert and stop certificates being enrolled from the old CA.

The 2nd part of this upgrade is to deploy a script to remove the old SCCM Client certificate from PCs.

The rollout schedule is as follows:

ITS, Labs IDG, U007 & Haslegrave-SS 19/02/2016
Support, Haslegrave Labs 22/02/2016
Ext, DS Lab 24/02/2016
Schools 1, ITS Labs & C05 26/02/2016
All Labs & C06 (minus LUiL) 01/03/2016
All W7 Service 02/03/2016
SCCM Servers (Service will be unavailable) 04/03/2016

We don’t require any of your assistance adding PCs to this group as it will be done for you.
