Changes to Windows 10 and Windows 7 Task Sequences Friday 12th January – Complete

This work has now been completed. All Task Sequences are now available again.

The latest versions of the Windows 10 Task Sequences are as follows:

  • In-Place Upgrade – 1703 v1.2
  • Provisioning – 1703 v1.3
  • Re-Image 1703 v1.5

All Windows 10 and Windows 7 Task Sequences, encompassing staff, labs and In-Place Upgrades, will be updated during the Task Sequence at risk period. It is therefore recommended that you do not image, provision or in-place upgrade any machines at this time.

We will inform you when the work has been completed.

This change is to update the Sassafras client installed in the Task Sequences, as well as some minor housekeeping. The Sassafras client is being upgraded on existing machines by a separate deployment.

Timescale:

12/01/18 – 08:30am-09:30am

Verismic Upgrade

On the 21st November 2017 between 9am-4pm we are upgrading the Verismic Power Management Server to the most recent version.

This should have no impact to your services and will let you know once the server upgrade is complete.

Update Task Sequence Media to Oct17

The Task Sequence Media has now been updated and we can confirm that this has resolved the issue.

YOU WILL NEED TO UPDATE YOUR TASK SEQUENCE MEDIA TO THE LATEST VERSION TO AVOID ISSUES WHEN IMAGING.

The files have been moved to \\ws2.lboro.ac.uk\DesktopResource\Windows\TaskSequenceMedia as the same media works for both Windows 7 and Windows 10. The latest version is TS_Media_Oct17.

The Provisioning Package is unaffected and does not need updating.

New Task Sequence Media (Jun17) for SCCM CB

Following the upgrade to SCCM Current Branch 1702, the Task Sequence Media has been updated to take advantage of new features introduced by Microsoft.

Most notably it is no longer necessary to restart the PC if no Task Sequences are found or the PC fails to find Task Sequence dependencies. In these cases, once the problem is resolved you should be able to start the process again without a reboot.

The new version can be found at \\ws2.lboro.ac.uk\DesktopResource\Windows\W7\common\TaskSequenceMedia\Current Branch.

The previous SCCM CB Task Sequence Media will continue to work on all but multi-boot iMacs in labs. However, as ever we recommend updating to the latest version.

Updating Windows 7 Base Image to version 1.9 – 25/01/17

A couple of SCCM log issues have been discovered in the current images for the Windows 7 Service.  To resolve these the base image is being updated from v1.8 to v1.9.

The issues are:

  • Task Sequence log files (smsts*.log) were not being copied to the hard disk, making troubleshooting difficult.
  • To add to the confusion, there was some erroneous logs in another location dating from July 2016.

Version 1.9 of the base image has the following changes:

  1. TS Log files are now produced
  2. Erroneous logs have been removed.
  3. Updates to December have been include.

The task sequences that use the base image will be updated between 8:00am and 9am on Wednesday 25th January 2017.  The task sequences affected are:

  1. PC Staff Base
  2. PC Labs Base
  3. Mac Labs Base

Please do not use these Task Sequences during the update time.

Other images also have the missing log files issue. These will be updated later.
