This will also mean the image creation development server Vcentre2 will be unavailable as both services are hosted on this set of machines.

Adobe Shockwave Player to be removed from Windows 7 Service
Adobe Shockwave Player plugin no longer required for University business
What is happening
Previously we asked for feedback from yourselves on the proposal to remove Adobe Shockwave Player from the Windows 7 Service (staff and labs). This process did not reveal any University business or resources which require this plugin and our software metering systems have not identified regular usage of it in recent months.
IT Services will therefore remove Adobe Shockwave Player from the Windows 7 Service in the next few weeks. This will improve the security of the service by reducing the number of plugins which are susceptible to security vulnerabilities, thereby reducing the number of monthly software updates required.
How will the works affect me?
The client will be silently removed from all Windows 7 Service staff and lab PCs. The uninstallation takes less than a minute and does not impact the PC performance. After uninstallation, Adobe Shockwave content will not be available on managed PCs.
What if I still need Shockwave?
If you or a member of staff in your School require Adobe Shockwave for University business, please contact IT.Services@lboro.ac.uk ASAP. Please include the address of the site which uses Shockwave and an explanation of how it is used in your work.
Timescales
The uninstallation schedule will be as follows:
- Monday 26th January – IT Services staff PCs, N006 and U007 labs
- Wednesday 28th January – Professional Services staff PCs, all ITS managed labs
- Week commencing 2nd February – VDI Services
- Wednesday 4th February – All W7 Service, including removal from Task Sequences.
Further information
Please contact the IT Service Desk on it.services@lboro.ac.uk.
