What is FLIX Student-Run Cinema about?<\/h4>\n

We show films every Sunday with National Theatre Live and other special events happening occasionally during the week. Flix doesn\u2019t play at being a real functioning cinema, we are a real functioning cinema. We have industry standard equipment that members of the society can be trained on. <\/em><\/p>\n

In my time on the committee for Flix, I have met multiple people who have shaped a career from their experiences at Flix. It is one of the most passionate groups I have ever been involved with on campus.<\/em><\/p>\n

What sorts of events are put on by the society?<\/h4>\n

As mentioned previously we have a regular film schedule mainly decided by our committee. We are always open to suggestions though! Being a student-run cinema we are able to put on the events that we want to put on and not worry (too much) about whether we will turn a profit. <\/em><\/p>\n

We do at least 1 large charity event a year, in previous years it was our Back to the Future Day Event where we showcased props from the films, collaborated with other societies and most importantly raised a huge amount of money for charity.<\/em><\/p>\n

We also set up a few \u201cEssential Viewing\u201d screenings where we show films that we consider some of the greatest films ever made that most people won\u2019t have seen in cinema before. <\/em><\/p>\n

Why, when and how did you join?<\/h4>\n

During my freshers, I went along to one of the screenings that Flix did, I needed a night off from the hectic hall freshers. After the screening, I spoke to one of the then committee\u00a0members and started volunteering at Flix a week or two later. Since then I haven\u2019t looked back!<\/em><\/p>\n

Best or most memorable moments from your time with the society?<\/h4>\n

One of the greatest moments that I have experienced while being part of Flix was at the society awards two years ago where we won both \u201cMost Outstanding Event\u201d and \u201cBest In General Interest Section Award\u201d. I had no real expectations that we would win anything as there had been so many other great things societies had done that year. It became a very special moment for me and the rest of the society seeing all our hard work recognised.<\/p>\n

Describe your society in three words!<\/h4>\n

Passionate, Friendly & Enthusiastic.<\/p>\n

Last word \u2013 what would you say to someone thinking of joining up?<\/h4>\n

I would say just go for it! I don\u2019t know anyone who has joined Flix and regretted it.<\/em><\/p>\n
