{"id":505,"date":"2018-05-22T16:04:25","date_gmt":"2018-05-22T15:04:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/copyright.lboro.ac.uk\/freshers\/?p=505"},"modified":"2018-08-30T10:15:52","modified_gmt":"2018-08-30T09:15:52","slug":"6-tips-for-surviving-shared-living","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/freshers\/tips-and-advice\/6-tips-for-surviving-shared-living\/","title":{"rendered":"6 tips for surviving shared living"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After months of worrying about what your room will be like and who you\u2019re going to be sharing a flat with, you\u2019re probably relieved to find that your new flatmates are indeed human beings &#8211; honestly, what were you expecting!<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The first few weeks are the best, in that all of your new flatmates are on their best behaviour, including you! But, sooner or later you might find certain habits start to grate on you. It\u2019s bound to happen. The good news is that many students have gone before you and they\u2019ve all survived. So, if you want to survive, follow our top tips.<\/p>\n<h3>Tip one: personal space<\/h3>\n<p>Some people need it more than others, and whether you\u2019re the person who needs it or not, it\u2019s important to respect other people\u2019s personal space.<\/p>\n<h5>A few ground rules;<\/h5>\n<ul>\n<li>Knock before entering someone\u2019s room. All because it\u2019s unlocked doesn\u2019t mean they want you to waltz in and out of their room without knocking.<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t berate someone for spending time on their own. Some \u2018alone\u2019 time is healthy. Be friendly, not pushy.<\/li>\n<li>Take the hint. Don\u2019t overstay your welcome. The best thing you can do is speak about your problems with the person in question.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Tip four: avoid flat romance like the plague<\/h3>\n<p>It\u2019s incredibly easy to \u2018fall\u2019 for someone, especially when there\u2019s alcohol involved; but don\u2019t let that blur your judgement. Try and clean up after yourself and create a nice environment for everyone you\u2019re sharing with.
