The Wellcome Trust invites applications for its strategic awards in biomedical science. These provide flexible forms of support to research groups with outstanding track records in their field. In particular, research should address the trust’s following strategic challenges:
• maximising the health benefits of genetics and genomics;
• understanding the brain;
• combating infectious disease;
• investigating development, ageing and chronic disease;
• connecting environment, nutrition and health.
Applications are open to established researchers from an eligible organisation who should normally hold an academic or research post or equivalent and have at least five years’ postdoctoral research experience.
Awards are funded in partnership with the host institution. They are normally for five years and cover equipment, support staff, consumables, training programmes, networking, and biological, clinical or epidemiological research resources, as well as limited capital building or refurbishment.
Proposals which involve interdisciplinary research collaborations of basic scientists and/or clinicians (medical and veterinary) and/or non-biologists (e.g. mathematicians, physicists, chemists, engineers, social scientists) are particularly encouraged.
