Loughborough’s social media highlights in 2015
We’ve arrived at the end of another brilliant year here at Loughborough. Take a look at some of our social media highlights from the past 12 months.
The new NCSEM:EM building opened on campus in January. It’s a stunning building!
We welcomed February’s Chinese/Lunar New Year in with style on our Facebook page!
March brought the annual blanket of crocuses to campus, and they looked absolutely stunning. We’re so lucky to have such a beautiful campus! Be sure to take a look at the entire Spring Facebook album.
Royalty on campus! Princess Anne visited campus for the BUCS Big Wednesday back in March. Be sure to read more about it.
In April we announced our leap to 2nd in this year’s Student Experience Survey, and this video really summed up our year’s achievements. Watch the whole video here.
Also in April we were named Whatuni’s University of the Year. The award was based on our student’s opinions, which just makes it extra special!

Definitely a nature-fan favourite, these beautiful ducklings & protective mum were spotted near the Hazlerigg building this May. Read more about the biodiversity on our campus.
We also rose four places in The Guardian University league table in May, which was a massive four place increase on last year! Read the full story.
TV Sports Host, Author, Fitness Consultant, former Athlete and Loughborough graduate Caroline Pearce starred in a video showcasing how Loughborough helped her to her success today. Watch the full video.
Our photo of Hazlerigg under construction really sparked some interest. Shout out to Adrian Haak in the comments who worked out that £42,000 in 1937 is £2,649,498 today!
We recognised the expertise of Williams F1 engineer Rob Smedley at our Summer graduation ceremonies in July, with an honorary degree. This is his second degree from Loughborough, as he’s also one of our alumni! Look how cute his two boys are!
Loughborough wins BUCS for the 35th time!
July saw The Telegraph name us as their Top University for sport, after our 35th consecutive BUCS win. Did we mention we won BUCS for the 35th time?

There was also Loughborough success in the National Student Survey this year – we made it into the Top 5!
We couldn’t make a highlight of the year post without including campus celebrity Charlie the Library cat!
Congratulations were in order for Loughborough graduate Flight Lt Si Taylor who took on the mantle of ‘Red 3’ in October, after joining the Red Arrows.
