Giving for Gold Collection

On Wednesday, the final day of the Giving for Gold collection will be based in Room One, packing all the donations ready for distribution to the recipient charities.
With thousands of items to sort through we will be grateful for any support you can offer us in completing this mammoth task!
If you have donated items or volunteered to help support the event, then please do stop by to say hello and collect a gift from us to thank you for helping us reach our gold targets.

Digital Week
16 – 20 Mar | Various timings & locations
Digital Week is a series of events and online resources to promote digital fluency across campus, raising awareness and giving insight into the digital tools available at Loughborough.
The weeks’ activities are divided into five digital themes: communication, research, wellbeing, security, and learning and teaching.
Informative, interactive workshops and drop-in sessions are available for students and staff, with participation in Digital Week counting towards students’ Personal Best badges.

Lightning Netball vs Saracens Mavericks

Loughborough Lightning welcomes Saracens Mavericks to Loughborough University in round 3 of the Vitality Netball Superleague.
With plenty of action on and off the court, this event is a fun-filled day out for all the family. We pride ourselves in our match day experience offering you plenty of food, drinks, merchandise, activities and games before the main event.

Happy Mondays: Cabaret

Wilkommen, bienvenue, welcome to a sordid, satirical, seductive night of Cabaret! Glamour and spectacle are in abundance as LU Arts invite you to feast your eyes on a showcase of Loughborough’s finest cabaret performers.

St Patrick’s Day Showcase

The Irish Dance Society is putting on a showcase for St Patrick’s Day which will feature their talents. Come along for a night of drinks, performances and a bit of ‘craic’!
They are raising money for MPN Voice’s Mosaicc Study who fund research in rare blood cancers.

Library Academic Skills Workshop: Literature Reviews – writing up

Have you completed your literature review but are struggling to write it up? Don’t know where to turn? Then this course is for you.
You will learn about the different types of review and how to structure them, what to include in your review and how to draw conclusions from the literature.

IAS Sound Theme – Summit 2: Sound in space and time

- Professor Wolfgang Wagenhäuser: Professor, pianist, composer, organist and author, Vice Rector at Trossingen University of Music
- Dr Elif Özcan, Director of Critical Alarms Lab, TU Delft
- Dr Yinan Zhang, Media Designer, Chief Designer of the Sound Lab, College of Design and Innovation, Tongji University

Public lecture: How to solve the knife problem? Let’s put children first

Amid rising concerns about knife crime, government, media and public representations continue to frame this social problem as an epidemic, exacerbated by ‘broken’ children and young people.
But what are the real causes of youth violence – and more importantly – the solutions needed to prevent further tragedy?
Professor Steve Case, Head of Social and Policy Studies, will talk about his research that has featured in national media and has been adopted by the Youth Justice Board for England and Wales to build their new national strategy for youth justice.
In this lecture, he argues for a radical new approach to tackling violent crime by young people: treating youth offenders as ‘children first’.
IAS Sound Theme: Storytelling on the piano workshop
6:30 – 8:30pm | Leonard Dixon Studio, Martin Hall
As part of the IAS Sound Theme Summit 2, Professor Wolfgang Wagenhauser will give a workshop on Storytelling on the Piano and will give people an opportunity to hear him play some of his spontaneous compositions.
Refreshments will be served at this event from 6.30pm in the Martin Hall Foyer.
Professor Wagenhäser is a world-renowned pianist and author. He has completed over fifty recordings for CD as well as live concerts for Radio and TV at various festivals in the past years (such as Moscow, Bucharest, Shanghai and Riva del Garda) attest to his outstanding ability and contributions as a musician. He is author of several books about pianism, music interpretation and the health of musicians, such as Acoustic Research Work (2008).

Music scholars recital

Each year LU Arts awards ten exceptional students scholarships in their chosen art form.
Five of these are awarded to instrumental and choral scholars and this concert is an opportunity to hear them perform following the year of support and tuition that is part of the scholarship package. Competition for these awards is always fierce and the students who will perform have been selected not only for their musical talent but also for their commitment and passion for their art form.

Flix: The Lighthouse

Flix Student Run Cinema presents a screening of the hypnotic and hallucinatory tale of The Lighthouse, a psychological horror film from Robert Eggers (The Witch).
Two lighthouse keepers try to maintain their sanity while living on a remote and mysterious New England island in the 1890s.

Loughborough Students RFC vs Preston Grasshoppers
KO 2pm | 1XV Rugby Pitch
Loughborough Men’s Rugby team compete in RFU National Two and will once again be looking to showcase their student talent in the fourth tier of English rugby. Hot food, hot and cold drinks, snacks and alcohol will be available to purchase.
A pre-match lunch (£12 cash payment on the day; food served at 12.45pm) will be available. Please email rugby@lboro.ac.uk to book your pre-match lunch. Bookings must be made no later than 10am on the Thursday before a match.
Ticket’s can be purchased by either cash or card on the day. Adults £10, Concession £7.50 (65+, under 18s, non Loughborough Univeristy/College Students), Loughborough Students – free (student ID required)
