With 1 in 20 people aged 16-25 being responsible for someone&#8217;s care, as a University, we work to ensure our young carers have the best possible student experience.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>To mark Young Carers Awareness Day we&#8217;re highlighting the support available to our student carers.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1397\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/life\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2018\/01\/CRL9109.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1020\" height=\"678\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/life\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2018\/01\/CRL9109.jpg 1020w, https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/life\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2018\/01\/CRL9109-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/life\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2018\/01\/CRL9109-768x510.jpg 768w, https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/life\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2018\/01\/CRL9109-370x246.jpg 370w, https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/life\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/24\/2018\/01\/CRL9109-770x512.jpg 770w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1020px) 100vw, 1020px\" \/><\/p>\n<h3>Balancing care and study<\/h3>\n<p><em>&#8220;I think personally it&#8217;s worth it, just because you have someone to care for doesn&#8217;t mean it should hold you back.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>How do you balance care and study?\u00a0We encourage young adult carers to believe in their own potential, with our <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lboro.ac.uk\/study\/inclusive-community\/young-carers\/\">support measures<\/a> including flexible student timetables, reserved parking on campus and tailored support through our dedicated <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lboro.ac.uk\/services\/student-services\/\">Student Services<\/a> team.<\/p>\n<p>We also offer a number of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lboro.ac.uk\/study\/school-college-liaison\/resources\/resourcelibrary\/\">resources<\/a> to help schools and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lboro.ac.uk\/parents\">families<\/a> of young carers support them through the UCAS application process.<\/p>\n<p>Watch Izzy&#8217;s story, who is currently studying <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lboro.ac.uk\/study\/undergraduate\/courses\/english-and-drama\/\">English and Drama<\/a> at Loughborough:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Student Experience: Izzy\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/8sqp-K5dr-c?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<h3>Support in place<\/h3>\n<p>As well as the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lboro.ac.uk\/study\/inclusive-community\/young-carers\/\">support offered by the University<\/a>, there are national and regional support services available to young carers.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/carers.org\/\">The Carers Trust<\/a> provides a variety of online support for young carers relating to all aspects of their daily lives, and\u00a0in Leicestershire support is available through <a href=\"http:\/\/vasl.org.uk\/\">VASL<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/believeinme.barnardos.org.uk\/?gclid=Cj0KEQiAqdLDBRDD-b2sv6-i6MsBEiQAkT3wApwgKgabpCQYGkHWk8-ybYI2hO-4oxiLKS1y30xqwvkaAmo98P8HAQ\">Barnardos<\/a> and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ageuk.org.uk\/leics\/about-age-uk-leicester-shire-and-rutland\/news--campaigns\/carers-cafe\/\">Leicestershire and Rutland Age UK<\/a>. We are delighted to invite young carers from year 7 upwards, aged 11 \u2013 18 years, to join us for our Explore More event.
