The Institute for Sport Business faculty have compiled a list of books, websites and podcasts that our current and prospective students may find useful as they immerse themselves in the sport business industry.


Recommendations from Dr Lauren Burch

  • Sports Tech Feed: This sports technology podcast with a global focus provides weekly in-depth interviews with sports technology experts in a variety of fields to keep listeners up to date with the latest innovations and trends.

Recommendations from Professor Michael Caine

  • SGB Media: This is the go-to resource for those interested in sporting goods industry news/developments.

Recommendations from Dr Andrea Geurin

  • Huddle Up: is a daily email newsletter breaking down the business and money behind sports. Each email focuses on a different topic or issue.
  • The Drum: is a website that doesn’t focused solely on sport, but a lot of their content deals with sport brands. Their content is marketing industry news which often highlights innovative campaigns and sponsorship activations. They also have an option to receive a daily email newsletter.
  • GOALS Sports: website, podcast, and social media accounts focused on empowering women and building a community of women in the sport industry. They have a weekly Friday e-newsletter and a weekly podcast called “The Business Case for Women’s Sports”.
  • The Routledge Handbook of the Business of Women’s Sportedited by Dr Nancy Lough and myself. The book contains chapters focusing on several aspects of women’s sport business including history, management, leadership, marketing, consumer behaviour, media, technology, finance/economics, analytics, governance, and legal issues. It is available in hard copy format in the Loughborough University London library, or it can be purchased via the link above.

Recommendations from Dr Emily Hayday

  • Unofficial partner: this sport business podcast is really great, topical and informative but also conversational- definitely worth checking out! Alongside the podcast – two episodes a week – there is a weekly newsletter which is a great resource. 
  • Sport Techie: Covers topical areas and current events within the sports industry- you can sign up to the newsletter- which is great to get updates on key trends across the industry.

  • Emergency on Planet Sport: This challenging eight-part series of podcasts investigates the links between sport and climate change and asks the sporting community, including us as fans and followers, to assess our contribution to an unfolding crisis.

Recommendations from Dr Daniel Read

  • The Olympic Games: A Critical Approach: by Helen Jefferson Lenskyj
  • Inside the Games: The No.1 Olympic news website in the world. The inside track on world sport, insidethegames brings you the latest and most up to date news and interviews from the world of Olympic, Commonwealth and Paralympic Games.
  • Sport Unlocked: From the pitches to the boardrooms, the stories behind the big decisions by sports leaders affecting every fan. Let the sports news insiders explain.

Recommendations from Professor James Skinner

  • The Athletic: this website also features a good sport business podcast. There is a free trial period before it requires payment.

Recommendations from Professor Aaron Smith

  • ESPN: Unmatched overview of up-to-the-minute sports news coverage, scores, highlights and commentary for Football, Cricket, Rugby, F1, Golf, Tennis, NFL, NBA and more…covering all the major codes from every world region and all the sport business gossip surrounding them. 
  • Verdict: Verdict covers topics surrounding global technology, business and innovation. It’s a RSS but is powered by data and smart visualisation techniques, which makes it pretty cool.
  • I Trust Sport:  Comprehensive series of blogs and hyperlinks to sport-related resources. I Trust Sport is a sports governance and compliance agency founded in London in 2013 which is dedicated to improving international sports governance through collaboration. I Trust Sport works with federations, sponsors, individuals and other bodies in sport on projects to bring about genuine change.
