Through our MSc programmes in Diplomacy and International Development, students engage directly with leading practitioners, gaining practical insights and professional development guidance that enhance their career prospects. By participating in these enriching experiences, students at IDIA build a solid foundation for impactful careers in diplomacy and international development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A recent highlight was an exclusive visit to the Embassy of Brazil, London, where students were hosted by HE Antonio de Aguiar Patriota. This event was part of IDIA\u2019s Inside the Profession (ItP) series, which regularly brings experts from state and non-state sectors to discuss pressing global issues and share career advice. These experiences enable students to apply their academic knowledge to real-world contexts, strengthening their understanding of international affairs and boosting their professional readiness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the event, Ambassador Patriota explored critical global political, economic, and environmental challenges\u2014issues directly relevant to the courses our student\u2019s study. He also shared visionary works such as Towards a Better Security Order, A Pacifism for Our Times, and A March of Reason for Peace, encouraging students to think critically about shaping a more responsible global future. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this blog post, two of our students Imannur G\u00fcl (MSc in Diplomacy and International Relations and holder of this year\u2019s Dean\u2019s Award for Global Excellence Scholarship) and Rich Royar Yarboi (MSc International Politics and Trade), share their reflections and impressions from the day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Imannur G\u00fcl<\/strong>, a student pursuing an MSc in Diplomacy and International Relations, reflected on the enlightening discussion with the Ambassador. &#8220;We had the opportunity to ask questions about diplomacy, the Ambassador\u2019s personal experiences, and the challenges and rewards of working in the field. Topics such as British-Brazilian relations and the upcoming COP30 Climate Summit in Brazil were particularly inspiring for those of us aspiring to become future diplomats.&#8221; She also remarked on the overall experience: &#8220;The Embassy&#8217;s ambience captivated us all. The elegant surroundings and the diplomatic atmosphere gave us a glimpse into the world of diplomacy and international cooperation.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Rich Royar Yarboi<\/strong>, studying for an MSc in International Politics and Trade, was deeply engaged by the Ambassador\u2019s reflections on Brazil\u2019s global role. &#8220;The Ambassador emphasized Brazil\u2019s priorities in building a just world and a sustainable planet, with a focus on social inclusion, sustainable development, and energy transition,&#8221; he noted. Rich found particular value in the Ambassador\u2019s views on global governance: &#8220;He highlighted the importance of reforming international institutions to address systemic issues while preserving their core functions, including convening a review of the UN Charter.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Both students found the visit profoundly educational and motivating. Imannur described it as &#8220;more than just an educational outing; it was a chance to connect with professionals in the field and learn from their expertise.&#8221; Rich added, &#8220;For many of us, the talk was eye-opening, linking academic studies with real-world practices in diplomacy and governance.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The students were especially inspired by the Ambassador\u2019s call to draw lessons from historical figures. Rich reflected, &#8220;It was special to hear the Ambassador compelling us to draw inspiration from great diplomats like Dr. Kofi Annan and Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, whose contributions have shaped international relations.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Gratitude was a recurring theme in their reflections. Imannur shared, &#8220;We are immensely grateful to the Institute for Diplomacy and International Affairs for organizing this event and to the Brazilian Embassy for hosting us so warmly.&#8221; Rich echoed this sentiment: &#8220;The hospitality extended by Ambassador Patriota and the Embassy staff made the visit truly memorable.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The visit to the Embassy of Brazil stands out as a significant milestone for the students, bridging the gap between their academic studies and professional aspirations.
