Relationship between reading lists and Library stock

Whenever you add a book, book chapter, journal article or AV resource to a reading list it automatically triggers an alert to the Library. The Library will first check if it already has the item in stock or has electronic access to it, if not it will try to obtain. The Library has a policy of purchasing an electronic edition in preference to print copies.

Where physical editions are necessary the Library will usually seek to obtain one copy per twenty students. For key resources the ratio is increased to one per ten students and for additional resources it is lowered to one per fifty students. This ratio may also be adjusted based upon previous borrower activity and available budget.

If you think that the Library should hold more (or less) copies of an item you can always indicate this by filling in the Academic Recommendations tab of the editing window.
