Saying Bye to My First Year

19 June 2018

3 mins

Today was the first day of saying bye since one of my friends is leaving home already tomorrow. Even though I am going to see him after the summer, it is a really weird feeling not to see someone for three months when you are used to seeing them almost every day. You don’t realise how fast a year goes by until it’s actually over.

First days

I really can’t believe how fast my first year at Loughborough went by. But the truth is that good things and times that you enjoy go really fast. There were so many new and exciting things, adventures and fun moments that have happened since I came to the university and when I look back at my first year, it was definitely one of the best years of my life, a year full of amazing moments.

I still remember coming to the university in September, not exactly knowing where I was going and what to expect. It was my first time in England and I didn’t really know how life here was or how everything at university works. I remember when I first walked to my block not even knowing how to get in. When I first opened the door to my room and sat down for a while to think how my life here is going to look like. Freshers Week activities started off right away and we had the first punch party and then went for the first night out in Loughborough. First meals in the dining hall, first training, first friends at the university. I met so many people during the first week and became close with some of them. I am really going to miss them over the summer.

Lectures and extras

Then the first lectures started. It was totally different from what I was used to, but I got used to it after a while. I was trying new things like different societies and sports and I took part in different events. First months were definitely about figuring out how everything works here, enjoying university life and trying out new things. Then the exams came. My first exams in English. I was really stressed, but at the end, it wasn’t that bad and even the exam period was over really fast.

Time flies

When the second semester started, I was already used to most of the things, but there was always something exciting and new that happened. The second semester went by even faster though than the first one. I don’t even know how it all happened and at this moment I am almost done with my first year’s exams. I haven’t been home since Easter, so I am definitely looking forward to meeting all my friends and family back at home, but at the same time, I am going to miss Loughborough and my friends.

Second year is going to be a good year as well for sure, but it is going to be very different from the first year. First year is special and if you are a new student coming to Loughborough, just have fun and I am sure you will enjoy it and you will experience one of the best times of your life! For me, it definitely was a year full of unforgettable memories and it went by way too fast.
