{"id":2883,"date":"2018-02-20T15:14:13","date_gmt":"2018-02-20T15:14:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/copyright.lboro.ac.uk\/students\/?p=2883"},"modified":"2018-02-21T16:20:15","modified_gmt":"2018-02-21T16:20:15","slug":"first-blog-ever","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/students\/engineering\/first-blog-ever\/","title":{"rendered":"First blog ever \u2013 about me!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I originally come from Russia, the land of bears and babushkas, but grew up in Prague, which conveniently qualifies me for Russian-Czech spy outfit as go-to fancy dress.<!--more--> In high school, I was part of the maths team and focused on physics and chemistry, consequently choosing to study <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lboro.ac.uk\/study\/undergraduate\/courses\/materials-science-and-engineering\/\">Materials Engineering<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Since Freshers\u2019 Week 2014, Loughborough has been a striking scrapbook of figuratively finding myself &#8211; from working behind the bar at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lsu.co.uk\/\">Students\u2019 Union<\/a>, playing for the <a href=\"http:\/\/loughboroughsport.com\/au-ultimate-frisbee\/\">Women\u2019s BUCS Ultimate Frisbee team<\/a> at nationals and organising <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lboro.ac.uk\/departments\/meme\/undergraduate\/clubs-activities\/wes\/\">Women in Engineering Society<\/a> events, to doing undergraduate research within the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lboro.ac.uk\/research\/lmcc\/\">Materials Characterisation Centre<\/a> and hopping on an airplane to Bangalore for a summer internship.<\/p>\n<h3><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2887\" style=\"font-size: 16px\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2018\/02\/Untitled-1_0003_RussianSocPhoto.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2018\/02\/Untitled-1_0003_RussianSocPhoto.png 1920w, https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2018\/02\/Untitled-1_0003_RussianSocPhoto-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2018\/02\/Untitled-1_0003_RussianSocPhoto-768x432.png 768w, https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2018\/02\/Untitled-1_0003_RussianSocPhoto-1024x576.png 1024w, https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2018\/02\/Untitled-1_0003_RussianSocPhoto-370x208.png 370w, https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2018\/02\/Untitled-1_0003_RussianSocPhoto-770x433.png 770w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px\" \/><\/h3>\n<p>Among other escapades, I have previously been an official <a href=\"http:\/\/media.lsu.co.uk\/\">LSU Media<\/a> nightlife photographer (for one night), have had my face on banners advertising the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lboro.ac.uk\/departments\/materials\/\">Materials Department<\/a>, done countless hours of volunteering, danced salsa and currently run the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lsu.co.uk\/society\/russianspeaking\/\">Russian Speakers Society at Loughborough.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>I also took a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lboro.ac.uk\/departments\/meme\/undergraduate\/industry-placements\/\">Year in Industry<\/a>, which was one of the highlights of my degree! Studying with a group of course mates helps stay productive, but also gives a good excuse for impromptu pizza parties in the department and well-deserved weeknight outings after a full day of studies.<\/p>\n<p>After the first exam week, my revision group organised a fantastic trip to the trampoline park just outside of Loughborough.
