{"id":3754,"date":"2018-12-10T17:27:45","date_gmt":"2018-12-10T17:27:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/students\/?p=3754"},"modified":"2018-12-21T14:06:12","modified_gmt":"2018-12-21T14:06:12","slug":"christmas-spirit-loughborough","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/students\/business-economics\/christmas-spirit-loughborough\/","title":{"rendered":"How to get into the Christmas spirit in Loughborough"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>First term is almost over and that means that Christmas is coming!<!--more-->\u00a0Even though Loughborough is not a very big town, you can still feel the Christmas\u00a0atmosphere,\u00a0and\u00a0here\u00a0are\u00a0some\u00a0tips on how to get the most out of it!<\/p>\n<p>If you live in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lboro.ac.uk\/services\/accommodation\/\">halls<\/a>, one of the social events that\u00a0will be\u00a0organised for you is the Christmas Ball. This is a special night and I would\u00a0recommend\u00a0going because it is a lot of fun. For most of the halls this is a formal dress night, but some of them also have a\u00a0fancy-dress\u00a0theme depending on where you live.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3759 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2018\/12\/CD2F51E4-97B3-441C-A9A7-662D49731EFA.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"4032\" height=\"3024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2018\/12\/CD2F51E4-97B3-441C-A9A7-662D49731EFA.jpeg 4032w, https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2018\/12\/CD2F51E4-97B3-441C-A9A7-662D49731EFA-300x225.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2018\/12\/CD2F51E4-97B3-441C-A9A7-662D49731EFA-768x576.jpeg 768w, https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2018\/12\/CD2F51E4-97B3-441C-A9A7-662D49731EFA-1024x768.jpeg 1024w, https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2018\/12\/CD2F51E4-97B3-441C-A9A7-662D49731EFA-370x278.jpeg 370w, https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2018\/12\/CD2F51E4-97B3-441C-A9A7-662D49731EFA-770x578.jpeg 770w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 4032px) 100vw, 4032px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Christmas Ball usually happens at a nice venue\u00a0either\u00a0in Nottingham or Leicester where you get a good meal, usually\u00a0a bit of\u00a0wine and then, the evening is yours to\u00a0just enjoy and have fun dancing and talking with friends\u00a0from your Hall. It\u2019s a\u00a0brilliant festive atmosphere with Christmas decorations and songs.<\/p>\n<p>Many of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lsu.co.uk\/getinvolved\/societies\/socslist\/\">societies<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lboro.ac.uk\/sport\/\">sport clubs<\/a> also organise Christmas socials, such as Christmas meals, baking, watching a movie or Christmas parties. There are also many Christmas parties happening in town and you can see people wearing Christmas costumes or Santa hats. You could also just organise a Christmas meal with your friends and do a secret Santa!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3757 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2018\/12\/edit4.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2018\/12\/edit4.png 1920w, https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2018\/12\/edit4-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2018\/12\/edit4-768x432.png 768w, https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2018\/12\/edit4-1024x576.png 1024w, https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2018\/12\/edit4-370x208.png 370w, https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2018\/12\/edit4-770x433.png 770w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px\" \/>Another event you can go to is the <a href=\"http:\/\/loveloughborough.co.uk\/event\/\">Christmas Lights Switch On<\/a> in the\u00a0local\u00a0town, where they have Christmas stands with a lot of food like hamburgers, sausages, churros, pancakes and different games\u00a0for children.\u00a0Then, everyone in the town shouts the countdown until\u00a0they turn on all the Christmas lights in\u00a0the\u00a0town\u00a0centre,\u00a0which is\u00a0quite\u00a0special.<\/p>\n<p>If you prefer something bigger than Loughborough Christmas Lights Switch On, you can go to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nottinghamwinterwonderland.co.uk\/\">Nottingham Winter Wonderland<\/a>, which is only about 15 minutes on the train or about 45 minutes on the bus. They also have different stalls with a lot of food, drinks and small gifts, but it\u2019s bigger than Loughborough and there is even an ice rink in the middle.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3756 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2018\/12\/edit2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2018\/12\/edit2.png 1920w, https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2018\/12\/edit2-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2018\/12\/edit2-768x432.png 768w, https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2018\/12\/edit2-1024x576.png 1024w, https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2018\/12\/edit2-370x208.png 370w, https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2018\/12\/edit2-770x433.png 770w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px\" \/><br \/>\nIf you want to go ice skating though, I would\u00a0definitely suggest\u00a0going to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.national-ice-centre.com\/\">National Ice Centre<\/a> in Nottingham, where they have a party on ice every Saturday. They turn on the disco lights and\u00a0play some night out music and you can just borrow the ice skates there.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/hydeparkwinterwonderland.com\/?_ga=2.186448617.175618848.1544462004-457574871.1544462004\">London Winter Wonderland<\/a> is also worth visiting, since it\u2019s a lot bigger than the one in Nottingham and you can really feel the Christmas atmosphere in London. You can either take a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetrainline.com\/buses\/loughborough-to-london\">bus<\/a> which takes about 3 hours or the train that is about an hour and 45 minutes. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thebfcm.co.uk\/\">Birmingham markets<\/a> are very nice as well and you can get there in about hour and 15 minutes by the train.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-3758 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2018\/12\/edit5.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1920\" height=\"1080\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2018\/12\/edit5.png 1920w, https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2018\/12\/edit5-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2018\/12\/edit5-768x432.png 768w, https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2018\/12\/edit5-1024x576.png 1024w, https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2018\/12\/edit5-370x208.png 370w, https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2018\/12\/edit5-770x433.png 770w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>So, even though Loughborough is not the biggest town, there are many different opportunities of how to really get into the Christmas mood. You can either just go to the Christmas events and parties in Loughborough or you can visit other towns.<\/p>\n<p>Whatever you do, just enjoy the last days of the term in Loughborough and then have a good Christmas time spent with your family and friends at home!
