This somehow seemed a very relevant topic to me, and will also remain close to my heart. Felt good&nbsp;to be around them\u2026&nbsp;I don\u2019t know&nbsp;what to feel about it.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>D: What do you mean?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>K: You know, my sexuality or LGBT+ identity is a big part of who I am, but I didn\u2019t want it to be a big deal in my social life. At&nbsp;one point&nbsp;it is so important&nbsp;for me to come out, and then I wonder if it would be cool if it wasn\u2019t. Does that make sense?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>D: I kind of&nbsp;get&nbsp;what you are saying. Was coming out a big deal for you?&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>K: It is, to an extent. I grew up keeping it a secret&nbsp;of sort&nbsp;and&nbsp;it&nbsp;ended up becoming a big deal. Like a ticking bomb.&nbsp;I questioned myself \u2013 \u2018why just me?\u2019&nbsp;It felt like the entire weight of the world was on my sexuality.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even now, I wonder how to tell people about my identity \u2013 \u2018how would they react?\u2019&nbsp;Now how would you feel if you felt like&nbsp;that?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>D: That is a big deal. And,&nbsp;doesn\u2019t&nbsp;sound very fair even. Well, Loughborough really helps me with that. Do you know the song \u2018Happy&nbsp;Together\u2019?&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>D: No.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>K:&nbsp;Exactly! It\u2019s one of my favourite songs. Until I came to Loughborough, i haven\u2019t met a single soul who knew that song, or knew why I knew the song.&nbsp;And then one day while I was sitting with my friends from the&nbsp;lgbt+ association, someone played that song. We all started humming and grooving to it, and we were&nbsp;happy, together.&nbsp;I finally got that opportunity&nbsp;to be&nbsp;who I am&nbsp;and normalise&nbsp;what I&nbsp;\u2013&nbsp;at some point&nbsp;\u2013&nbsp;thought was wrong.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also, listening to everyone\u2019s inspiring stories gave me so much to look forward to. It was like&nbsp;I came out without really coming out&nbsp;here\u2026 Can\u2019t it&nbsp;always&nbsp;be like this?&nbsp;This made me think about coming out\u2026 is it really as big a deal as I believe it is, or should it be normalised \u2013&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>D: I&nbsp;agree&nbsp;it is unfair&nbsp;to pressurise people to come out. Who&nbsp;knows.&nbsp;Until then it might be better if we just get back to our assignments\u2026 for now.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>D: Okay I will meet you at the library then. But,&nbsp;Kavi there\u2019s something I need to tell you&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>K: Sure&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>D: Please listen to me carefully, please.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>K: Is everything okay?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>D: Um, I guess. The thing is\u2026 I&nbsp;am&nbsp;like you and&nbsp;I\u2019m also&nbsp;not \u2018normal\u2019\u2026 I\u2019m heterosexual.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While this conversation made us laugh&nbsp;and cringe at the same time,&nbsp;but&nbsp;it&nbsp;gave me an insight into&nbsp;what it takes for someone like Kavi to be comfortable with himself (to which he will surely say, \u201cshouldn\u2019t it be like this for all?\u201d).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a time with growing understanding and acceptance of LGBT, we tend to overlook certain nuances of their lives. It is inspiring to learn how Loughborough University and the LGBT+ association takes initiatives to also address such issues, for instance, from conversations on Gender in Sport, through <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lboro.ac.uk\/news-events\/lgbt-history-month\/events\/\">month-long campaigns<\/a>, to monthly LGBT+ bar and dance night-outs (aka OUT hosted in the Students Union). <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2019\/05\/image5-1-1024x576.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-4149\" srcset=\"https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2019\/05\/image5-1-1024x576.png 1024w, https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2019\/05\/image5-1-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2019\/05\/image5-1-768x432.png 768w, https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2019\/05\/image5-1-370x208.png 370w, https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2019\/05\/image5-1-770x433.png 770w, https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/31\/2019\/05\/image5-1.png 1920w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>So, if you identify as bisexual, heterosexual, homosexual or transsexual, you are as normal as the person sitting next to you in lectures, playing a sport with you, or working with you. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And, that is how you should feel\u2026 that is how inclusive Loughborough University will make you feel.&nbsp;&nbsp;We are the <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/LboroFamily?src=hash\">#LboroFamily.<\/a>&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Loughborough University is a fully inclusive learning environment.
