I can now say this from experience! As the Graduate Intern in the <a title=\"Teaching Centre homepage\" href=\"http:\/\/www.lboro.ac.uk\/services\/teachingcentre\/\" target=\"_blank\">Teaching Centre <\/a>I\u2019ve\u00a0been involved in\u00a0lots of different elements of Learning and Teaching at Loughborough and I have to say I never imagined I\u2019d actually ever give a lecture. However, the time came when I was required to deliver a session to students on the e-portfolio tool I have been trialling called <a title=\"Mahara blog\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/teachingandlearning\/?p=1224\" target=\"_blank\">Mahara<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>At first I was really quite nervous about it but of course I\u2019m situated in the best place on campus to advise me on this! The <a title=\"Accredited course page\" href=\"http:\/\/www.lboro.ac.uk\/services\/teachingcentre\/teams\/accreditedcoursesteam\/\" target=\"_blank\">Accredited Course <\/a>team on one side, <a title=\"Enhancement team\" href=\"http:\/\/www.lboro.ac.uk\/services\/teachingcentre\/teams\/enhancementteam\/\" target=\"_blank\">Quality Enhancement <\/a>on the other and the great know-how of the <a title=\"e-learning team\" href=\"http:\/\/www.lboro.ac.uk\/services\/teachingcentre\/teams\/e-learningteam\/\" target=\"_blank\">E-learning team<\/a>, I was always going to pull it off.<\/p>\n<p>I planned my session in advance and worked out timings and lesson objectives. I created <a title=\"tools for teaching\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/elearning\/?page_id=1266\" target=\"_blank\">screencast<\/a> tutorial videos to put on the Learn page as extra resources for them to refer to throughout the course. I also used <a title=\"ReVIEW\" href=\"https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/elearning\/?page_id=1264\" target=\"_blank\">ReVIEW<\/a> and captured the session so it could be watched back for anything the students had missed.<\/p>\n<p>In summary, standing in front of 100 students delivering content and trying not to talk too fast was fairly daunting, but my preparation and advice from colleagues really helped. I think my next step will be to re-watch the session and to see if there is anything I can improve on for next time!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>To the people out there that say delivering a lecture is easy, think again.
