{"id":1881,"date":"2014-06-18T08:26:33","date_gmt":"2014-06-18T08:26:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/copyright.lboro.ac.uk\/teachingandlearning\/?p=1881"},"modified":"2014-06-18T08:26:33","modified_gmt":"2014-06-18T08:26:33","slug":"awards-raise-profile-of-teaching-in-academia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/teaching-learning\/2014\/06\/18\/awards-raise-profile-of-teaching-in-academia\/","title":{"rendered":"Awards raise profile of teaching in academia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Loughborough University\u2019s newest <\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">National Teaching Fellow<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\"> has highlighted teaching awards as a key driver in developing academics&#8217; teaching careers. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Speaking at the 2014 Teaching Innovation Awards, <\/span><strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Dr Peter Willmot<\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\"> from the Wolfson School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">talked of his delight when teaching received international recognition for developing researchers and engineers. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;font-family: Calibri;font-size: medium\">Pro Vice Chancellor Teaching, Professor Morag Bell said the prestigious national award from the Higher Education Academy recognised Dr Willmot\u2019s work in developing the global profile of engineering teaching. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Earlier in his career Dr Willmot was the winner of a teaching award.<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: Calibri\"><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">Teaching Awards began at Loughborough University in 2005. Since 2012 when innovation became a key factor for winning projects, almost \u00a360,000 has been awarded to 19 projects across 9 schools<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">\u00a0 <\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;font-size: medium\">and departments.
