{"id":193,"date":"2010-04-27T08:26:40","date_gmt":"2010-04-27T08:26:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/copyright.lboro.ac.uk\/elearning\/?p=193"},"modified":"2010-04-27T08:26:40","modified_gmt":"2010-04-27T08:26:40","slug":"new-learn-plug-in-for-turnitin-access","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/teaching-learning\/2010\/04\/27\/new-learn-plug-in-for-turnitin-access\/","title":{"rendered":"New Learn plug-in for TurnItIn access"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The good news is that Learn now has a new Activity type, a TurnItIn Assignment.<br \/>\nUnlike previous connections with the plagiarism detection service, this one has the students doing the submitting.\u00a0 Staff no longer need to be individually registered for the service &#8211; Learn is registered instead.<\/p>\n<p>Advantages:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A scaleable service, because individuals are no longer manually registered<\/li>\n<li>Students get an emailed receipt for their submission<\/li>\n<li>Slicker interface<\/li>\n<li>Students can be allowed to see the Originality Report<\/li>\n<li>Anonymous marking (if required) can be turned on from within Learn\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>(optional) use of GradeMark online marking tools, in which case&#8230;\u00a0<\/li>\n<li>Marks are fed back into the Learn module&#8217;s Activity Results<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Disadvantages:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Needs a live internet connection<\/li>\n<li>Scaling up usage increases training requirements<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The bad news is that, at least in the current version, the activity does not have the usual weekly backup facility.\u00a0<br \/>\nThis means that, for this term at least, it should not be used for summative assessments.<\/p>\n<p>If you would like to use the new system, please contact Bryan Dawson (x226037, library e-Learning office) for details.<br \/>\nDocumentation on the new system is available from <a href=\"http:\/\/learn.lboro.ac.uk\/mod\/resource\/view.php?id=38954\" target=\"_blank\">the Staff Room on Learn<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Existing TurnItIn users may continue to use the current batch upload system: the new plug-in is an additional service, not a replacement service.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The good news is that Learn now has a new Activity type, a TurnItIn Assignment.
