{"id":2110,"date":"2013-01-17T16:29:49","date_gmt":"2013-01-17T16:29:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/copyright.lboro.ac.uk\/teachingandlearning\/?p=319"},"modified":"2013-01-17T16:29:49","modified_gmt":"2013-01-17T16:29:49","slug":"do-your-students-carry-out-research-projects-as-part-of-their-placement-learning-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/teaching-learning\/2013\/01\/17\/do-your-students-carry-out-research-projects-as-part-of-their-placement-learning-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Do your students carry out research projects as part of their placement learning?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If so, the <a title=\"HEA Social Sciences Annual Conference\" href=\"http:\/\/www.heacademy.ac.uk\/events\/detail\/2013\/SocSciConf13\" target=\"_blank\">2013 HEA Social Sciences Annual Conference<\/a> (23 May 2013 &#8211; 24 May 2013) may be of interest.<\/p>\n<p>The conference will be themed around the following areas:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">\u2022 Embedding research methods into the curriculum<br \/>\n\u2022 Communicating quantitative methods<br \/>\n\u2022 Teaching mixed methods<br \/>\n\u2022 Assessment for learning in research methods<br \/>\n\u2022 The use of open educational resources (OER) in research methods teaching<br \/>\n\u2022 Developing a pedagogical culture<br \/>\n\u2022 Researching for \u2018work\u2019 and at \u2018work\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The last theme will be relevant to colleagues with responsibility for placement learning.<\/p>\n<p>The conference call\u00a0highlights how, while placement project work can involve using research-related skills, links to research methods teaching are sometimes left implicit. Furthermore, while the benefits of placement\/work-based learning in terms of developing students\u2019 employability skills are recognised, the benefits of academic input into developing workplace practice are less often articulated.<\/p>\n<p>The HEA has invited contributions that discuss projects that incorporate research methods teaching with work-based or placement learning projects and which seek to demonstrate the benefits of this type of learning for students and\/or a level of knowledge exchange between educators and employers\/placement providers.<\/p>\n<p>By providing a space in which to communicate insights and examples from practice, it promises to provide an environment in which both challenges can be discussed and possible solutions shared.<\/p>\n<p>Further details are available at: <a title=\"HEA Conference website\" href=\"http:\/\/www.heacademy.ac.uk\/events\/detail\/2013\/SocSciConf13\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/www.heacademy.ac.uk\/events\/detail\/2013\/SocSciConf13<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; If so, the 2013 HEA Social Sciences Annual Conference (23 May 2013 &#8211; 24 May 2013) may be of interest.
