{"id":3409,"date":"2016-05-26T09:13:31","date_gmt":"2016-05-26T09:13:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/copyright.lboro.ac.uk\/teaching-learning\/?p=3409"},"modified":"2016-05-26T09:13:31","modified_gmt":"2016-05-26T09:13:31","slug":"awards-celebrate-teaching-excellence-at-loughborough-university","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/teaching-learning\/2016\/05\/26\/awards-celebrate-teaching-excellence-at-loughborough-university\/","title":{"rendered":"Awards Celebrate Teaching Excellence at Loughborough University"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>The annual Research-informed Teaching Awards (RiTAs) and the Teaching Innovation Awards (TIAs) celebrate excellence in innovative and research informed practice across the University. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The awards are designed to reaffirm the University\u2019s commitment to recognise staff and students who demonstrate high levels of achievement in both research and teaching.<\/p>\n<p>The Research-informed Teaching Awards reward academic staff who have made an outstanding contribution to the promotion of research-informed teaching at the University.<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/teaching-learning\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2016\/05\/Learning-and-teaching-conference-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-3408 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/teaching-learning\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2016\/05\/Learning-and-teaching-conference-2-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"Learning and teaching conference (2)\" width=\"325\" height=\"220\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Teaching Innovation Awards fund student and staff ideas to enhance teaching and learning at Loughborough. This year, \u00a323,000 has been awarded to fund nine different projects.<\/p>\n<p>The recipients of this year\u2019s teaching awards are:<\/p>\n<p><strong>RiTAs<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Dr Line Nyhagen<\/strong>, <strong>Department of Social Sciences, School of Social, Political and Geographical Sciences<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Awarded for her expertise in curriculum design which clearly demonstrates the ways in which she forges links between her research and her teaching.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dr Cheryl Travers, Director of Executive Education, School of Business and Economics<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For her expertise in pedagogical research which has had a major impact on students over a sustained period of time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dr Heike Jons<\/strong>, <strong>Department of Geography, School of Social, Political and Geographical Sciences<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>For her expertise in curriculum design which enables her students to benefit directly from her research over a range of modules.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TIAs <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Jo Bullard, Department of Geography and Shung Hua Yang<\/strong>, <strong>Computer Science<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Using Augmented Reality to Improve Geomorphological Understanding<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Karisa Krcmar, Counselling and Disability Service and Lauren Sherar,<\/strong> <strong>School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>An exploration of the benefits of active learning strategies for Loughborough University students with neurodiversity<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Ella-Mae Hubbard and Joshua Goodman,\u00a0Wolfson School of Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Understanding and exploiting threshold concepts<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>David Kerr and Anthony Sutton, Wolfson School of Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Remotely Accessed Laboratory Suite (RALS) using the Internet of Things<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Thomas Steffen,<\/strong> <strong>Aeronautical and Automotive Engineering<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Gamification for Learning in Electrotechnology<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Sweta Ladwa, School of Science<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>A \u2018Blueprint\u2019 for Peer-Based and Collaborative Learning in a Teaching Laboratory<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Lauren Sherar, School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Experiential and interactive learning in the teaching area of Physical Activity and Health of Children<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>George Torrens, Loughborough Design School and Simon Downs, School of the Arts, English and Drama<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Development of a multi-disciplinary, self-learning led resource for practice based students supporting training in research methods, design thinking &amp; decision-making<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Alexandre\u00a0Christoyannopoulos, Politics, History and International Relations and Marco Bohr, School of the Arts, English and Drama<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Development and dissemination of an informed resource on professional blogging for students and staff<\/em><\/p>\n<p>All award winners will be formally announced by the Vice Chancellor and Pro Vice Chancellor Teaching Learning and Teaching Conference on 16 June.<\/p>\n<p>The event will take place at the West Park Teaching Hub where this year\u2019s TIA winners will be exhibiting posters outlining their projects.
