{"id":633,"date":"2011-01-27T11:23:07","date_gmt":"2011-01-27T10:23:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/copyright.lboro.ac.uk\/elearning\/?p=633"},"modified":"2015-09-02T14:03:33","modified_gmt":"2015-09-02T14:03:33","slug":"seizing-the-opportunity-of-online-learning-for-uk-higher-education","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/teaching-learning\/2011\/01\/27\/seizing-the-opportunity-of-online-learning-for-uk-higher-education\/","title":{"rendered":"Seizing the opportunity of online learning for UK higher education"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/elearning\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/hefce.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-634 alignleft\" title=\"HEFCE\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/elearning\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/hefce.jpg\" alt=\"HEFCE\" width=\"237\" height=\"80\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/elearning\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/OLTF.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-635\" title=\"OLTF\" src=\"https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/elearning\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/01\/OLTF.jpg\" alt=\"OLTF\" width=\"237\" height=\"80\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Online Learning Task Force (OLTF) published its final report &#8216;<a title=\"LOTF Final Report\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hefce.ac.uk\/pubs\/hefce\/2011\/11_01\/\" target=\"_blank\">Collaborate to compete: Seizing the opportunity of online learning for UK higher education<\/a>&#8216; in January 2011.<\/p>\n<p>It concluded that online learning \u2013 however blended with on- or off-campus interactions, whether delivered in the UK or overseas \u2013 provides real opportunity for UK institutions to develop responsive, engaging and interactive provision which, if offered at scale, can deliver quality and cost-effectiveness while meeting student demands for flexible learning.<\/p>\n<p>The report showcases <a title=\"16 University and consortia courses\" href=\"http:\/\/www.hefce.ac.uk\/learning\/enhance\/case\/\" target=\"_blank\">the work of 16 university and consortia courses in the UK<\/a> including partnerships between HE institutions and the private sector.<\/p>\n<p>It makes six recommendations to institutions and the wider HE sector. They include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>using online learning to enhance student choice<\/li>\n<li>realignment training and development<\/li>\n<li>developing and exploiting open educational resources.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The OLTF was set up to research and investigate how the UK could maintain and extend its position as a world leader in online learning.
