Our current membership is\nan interdisciplinary group from across the Schools of Art and Design, and Film\nand Journalism at UWE, with a unifying interest in drawing in contemporary arts\npractice and research. The symposium will be an opportunity to discuss and\nreview what drawing is and has been at art school, and what it could and should\nbe in future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The teaching of drawing\nhas changed dramatically at art school over the course of a generation. The way\nthat students are taught drawing today varies from the experience of their\ntutors. And experiences vary even between different generations of tutors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is talk of the\ndecline of skills-based teaching and of students setting up their own life\ndrawing classes. But what drawing skills do art students need anyway? What are\nthey drawing for?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Drawing has been\nre-framed since the 1960s, asserting itself as an independent and autonomous\npractice.
