Research has found that kindness helps to create a sense of belonging, deepen friendships, and reduce feelings of loneliness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can show kindness through small acts like holding open a door, or bigger acts such as volunteering in your local community. Our blog \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.lboro.ac.uk\/wellbeing\/2023\/09\/13\/5-ways-to-wellbeing-give\/\">5 Ways to Wellbeing: Give\u2019<\/a>, explores how giving to others boosts our wellbeing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Simple acts of kindness ideas you can do today:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Gift your favourite book to a colleague.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Offer to make someone a drink.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Praise a colleague for something they have done well.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Invite someone to lunch or for a coffee.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Introduce yourself to someone you&#8217;ve never spoken to before.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Send someone an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lboro.ac.uk\/internal\/thanks-ecards\/\">e-card<\/a> to say thank you.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Help someone complete a task.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Check in with someone you&#8217;ve not spoken to for a while.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bring treats into the office to share with colleagues.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Start an office kindness board.&nbsp;This could be something as simple as colourful sticky notes, or a whiteboard with words of appreciation and encouragement. Invite your team to contribute their own messages to the board.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Read some more kindness ideas and stories from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.randomactsofkindness.org\/kindness-stories\">Random Acts of Kindness Foundation<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mentalhealth.org.uk\/explore-mental-health\/kindness#:~:text=It%20helps%20reduce%20stress%2C%20brings,feelings%20of%20confidence%20and%20optimism.\">Mental Health Foundation<\/a> states that \u201cKindness to ourselves can prevent shame from corroding our sense of identity and help boost our self-esteem. Kindness can even improve feelings of confidence and optimism.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Don\u2019t forget to be kind to yourself:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Prioritise some time to relax, think about how you\u2019re feeling and how your day or week has been so far.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Try and tune out social media for a day, or even a week.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Treat yourself to something, even if it\u2019s something small.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Remind yourself that you are doing the best you can.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Author and cartoonist Dr Seuss wrote: <strong>\u201cUnless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better.
