For some, the run-up to Christmas can also heighten feelings of stress and anxiety.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are some tips to keep yourself healthy during winter:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Get a flu vaccination &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/vaccinations\/flu-vaccine\/\">Find out how you can get the vaccine<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stay warm &#8211; Cold weather can increase blood pressure and breathing in cold air can increase the risk of chest infections, so it\u2019s important to ensure your home is the right temperature, the <a href=\"https:\/\/energysavingtrust.org.uk\/blog\/take-control-your-heating-home\">Energy Saving Trust<\/a>&nbsp;recommends heating your home to between 18-21 degrees Celsius<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Take a vitamin D supplement &#8211; According to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhs.uk\/conditions\/vitamins-and-minerals\/vitamin-d\/\">NHS<\/a>, between October and early March we do not make enough vitamin D from sunlight, government advice is that everyone should consider taking a daily vitamin D supplement during the autumn and winter<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Regularly sanitise your workspace \u2013 Use disinfectant to clean surfaces and make sure to switch off devices before sanitising<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Try light therapy \u2013 Light therapy lamps can be an effective treatment for seasonal affective disorder (SAD)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Incorporate key nutrients into your diet \u2013 As well as vitamin D, other important nutrients to keep you healthy in winter include vitamin C, iron, zinc, and vitamin B6<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use a good moisturiser \u2013 Cold, dry air in winter can strip your skin of moisture<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Try out some of these self-care ideas to lift your mood<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Start a journal \u2013 Document your thoughts and goals, you can pick up a free copy of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lboro.ac.uk\/arts\/get-involved\/arts-wellbeing\/journal\/\">LU Arts journal<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Decorate your home or office with seasonal colours and decorations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Create a winter reading list \u2013 You can borrow books from Pilkington Library on campus and explore their <a href=\"https:\/\/lboro.rl.talis.com\/index.html\">online reading lists<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Create a vision board for the year ahead \u2013 Try using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canva.com\/create\/vision-boards\/\">Canva\u2019s Vision Board Maker<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Do some winter baking \u2013 Experiment with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbcgoodfood.com\/recipes\/collection\/top-winter-recipes\">comforting seasonal recipes<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Create a self-care box \u2013 Include your favourite book, photos, snacks, or anything that brings you joy<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go for a walk with a hot drink<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Hopefully some of these ideas will help you stay healthy and brighten your winter.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As the days get shorter and temperatures drop, winter brings unique challenges for both our physical and mental health.
