Some people may prefer to keep busy at work, while others may need time away. There is no right or wrong way to grieve, and it\u2019s important to respect each person\u2019s unique process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Working through grief<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Returning to work while you&#8217;re grieving can be a particularly challenging time so it\u2019s important to be kind to yourself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Establishing a daily routine can help provide a sense of stability.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be patient with yourself as healing takes time.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Focus on small, manageable tasks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Take care of yourself by eating well and exercising.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Prioritise rest and allow yourself to take breaks.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Seek support and let others know what you need.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>How to support colleagues going through bereavement<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When a colleague is going through bereavement, it can be difficult to know how to offer support. Grief can sometimes feel like an uncomfortable subject but in times of loss, small acts of understanding can make a world of difference.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Give them time and space to share their situation at their own pace, don\u2019t press for details if they are not ready.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>If they choose to talk, let them share as much or as little as they want without interruption or judgement.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Choose an appropriate time and private setting to have a conversation, away from high-stress work situations or busy environments.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Small gestures like covering a task, checking in with them, or offering to grab lunch can provide comfort and ease some of their burdens.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be mindful of anniversaries and triggers, certain dates or events may bring up emotions. A thoughtful acknowledgement can show you care.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sueryder.org\/grief-support\/supporting-someone-bereaved\/\">Find more guidance and advice about supporting someone who is grieving.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Support available for staff<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lboro.ac.uk\/services\/hr\/topics\/employee-assistance-programme\/\">Employee Assistance Programme<\/a>&nbsp;is available&nbsp;to provide support to you if you need it. <a href=\"https:\/\/acrobat.adobe.com\/id\/urn:aaid:sc:eu:2400043b-859a-40a6-b85c-88dd85dec892\">More information on support for bereavement from Health Assured<\/a>. If you would find comfort in the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lboro.ac.uk\/services\/chaplaincy\/\">Chaplaincy<\/a>, you can contact them on 01509 223741 or by <a href=\"mailto:emailing&nbsp;chaplaincy@lboro.ac.uk.&nbsp;\">emailing&nbsp;chaplaincy@lboro.ac.uk.&nbsp;<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.lboro.ac.uk\/services\/hr\/topics\/compassionate-leave\/\">Information on the University\u2019s compassionate leave policy.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The following organisations offer specialised services that could help you cope with bereavement:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ataloss.org\/\">At a loss<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 find bereavement services and counselling across the UK.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.childbereavementuk.org\/\">Child Bereavement UK<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 offers support if you are bereaved after losing a child.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.childdeathhelpline.org.uk\/\">Child Death Helpline<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 helpline for all those affected by the death of a child.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.tcf.org.uk\/\">The Compassionate Friends<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 find support for bereaved parents and their families.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cruse.org.uk\/get-help\">Cruse Bereavement Support<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 offers face-to-face, telephone, email and online support for anyone who has experienced a loss.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hospiceuk.org\/our-campaigns\/dying-matters\/dying-matters-resources\">Dying Matters<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 resources to help people talk more openly about dying, death and bereavement, and to make plans for the end of life.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thegoodgrieftrust.org\/\">The Good Grief Trust<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 a charity run by bereaved people, helping all those experiencing grief in the UK.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/hubofhope.co.uk\/?utm_source=mind_website&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_campaign=bereavement\">Hub of Hope<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 database of mental health services in the UK, including community, charity, private and NHS mental health support.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/thelossfoundation.org\/\">The Loss Foundation<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 offers support to people who have lost someone to cancer.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.samaritans.org\/\">Samaritans<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 if you&#8217;re struggling you can call Samaritans any time on\u00a0<a href=\"tel:+44-116-123\">116 123<\/a>\u00a0to talk about anything.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sands.org.uk\/\">Sands<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 information and support for anybody affected by the death of a baby.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sueryder.org\/\">Sue Ryder<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 offers bereavement support, including\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sueryder.org\/how-we-can-help\/online-bereavement-support\">ways of finding bereavement support online<\/a>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.widowedandyoung.org.uk\/get-support\/bereavement-support\">WAY (Widowed and Young)<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 advice for people who have lost a partner before their 51st birthday.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Keep an eye on our\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.lboro.ac.uk\/internal\/events\/\">events page<\/a>\u00a0for upcoming wellbeing webinars.
