Happy Mondays: Botanical drawing & collage

8 November, 7pm – 9pm, Michael Pearson Boardroom

Get creative with autumn botanicals making your own drawings and collages.

Learn how to create colourful observational drawings of plants and flowers using wax crayons and coloured pencils. Local artist and tutor Meg Bonser will show you how to experiment with beginner-friendly drawing exercises, sharing tips and tricks along the way. Then explore these botanical shapes further to create bright, layered paper collages with an abstract twist!

NCSEM lecture: Detecting early heart failure in people with Type 2 Diabetes

This public lecture will be delivered by Professor Gerry McCann, NIHR Research Professor, Professor of Cardiac Imaging and Honorary Consultant Cardiologist, at the University of Leicester. The talk will discuss early heart failure and detecting this in people with Type 2 Diabetes.

Inaugural Lecture: Professor Caroline Field

We are living in an increasingly volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous (VUCA) world, as evidenced by the past 18 months of the Covid pandemic coupled with the effects of climate change sweeping across the globe. We are facing one of the largest transitions in our history as we decarbonise our planet. In addition to transition risk mitigation, we need to develop the adaptive capacity to deal with these changes. We need to ask ourselves whether our current design practices are fit for the future? It is likely that our structures will face loads larger than those designed for due to the effects of climate change and other stressors.
