As part of our applicant support, we offer academic 1:1 calls to give you the opportunity to speak directly with a member of the academic team from the programme you’re interested in joining. This is a great opportunity to ask any questions you may have about your degree, career prospects, teaching methods and the overall student experience.

Academic 1:1 calls are offered to all offer-holders via email and will usually be with the Programme Director, who is responsible for overseeing your degree programme. Once you submit a request, our academic team will contact you to arrange a date and time that is convenient for you.

The call will take place via Microsoft Teams and can be either a video or phone call, depending on your preference.

We know speaking to an academic for the first time might feel a little intimidating, so we’ve put together some guidance to help you prepare. This includes what to expect during your call, the types of questions you can ask and some examples of questions you may want to consider asking.

What could you talk about?  

You might want to know more about the degree 

• What does a typical week look like for a student on the degree? 

• Which modules do students find most valuable and most challenging? 

• How much choice will you have over modules and dissertation topic? 

• Is the programme more theoretical or more practical?  

• What makes this programme different from similar ones at other universities? 

• How does my employment or previous studies prepare me for the degree?  

• What prizes are there for students who do well on the degree?  

The academic can tell you about teaching and assessment 

• Who teaches on the programme, and how much access will I have to them? 

• How large are seminars and lectures? 

• How will I be assessed? 

• How is the dissertation run, and how will I choose a topic and supervisor? 

• Are there opportunities to work on projects with external organisations? 

• Is there anything I should read or do before my first class?   

You could ask about careers 

• Where do graduates from this programme typically go after graduation? 

• How does the programme help students build a professional network in London? 

• What careers support is available and what does the Future Space do?  

• Are there micro-internship or work placement opportunities? 

• How does the programme prepare students for work after graduation? 

• I am interested in [your career goal]. How will this programme help me with that?
