Workshops for 2018

Now that the New Year has been and gone, we can announce three more seasonal writing workshops with Poet in the Park.  All workshops will be based at the Deer Barns, at the heart of the Park.  I look forward to meeting you, either for the first time, or once again, for more writing.  No previous experience is necessary, and everyone is welcome.  Details of location and how to book are below:

Tuesday 27^th March, 10.30 – 12.30 (Spring workshop)

In this workshop we’ll be looking for signs of Spring – in the wildlife, but also in the visitors to the Park.  There will be observation exercises, and some imaginative work about the history of the Park.  You may not write ‘finished’ poems, but I hope you’ll go away buzzing with ideas.

Tuesday 19^th June, 10-30 – 12.30 (Summer workshop)

Everyone loves Bradgate in the summertime, including the animals, birds and insects that live here.  Again the seasons change the appearance of the Park, and brng new life and activity.  In this workshop we’ll think about life, memory, movement and words: I think that includes everything.  As usual, you may not write a ‘finished’ poem, but you will leave warmed up by ideas!

Tuesday September 18^th 10.30 – 12.30 (Autumn workshop)

In this, the fourth and final workshop of the seasonal series, we’ll reflect on the coming of autumn; what it means to us, and what it means to the Park.  Everyone knows about autumn leaves and chestnuts, but what else does autumn signify? What does it mean to the Park and its inhabitants? As ever, you may not write a ‘finished’ poem, but I hope that you’ll leave with plenty of ideas, ready to bear fruit – or hibernation…

Parking is £3 (which covers all day) and the nearest car park is Hallgates, Cropston. You will need to walk to the Visitor Centre. Please note: there is no parking at the Deer Barns for these events.

The Visitor Centre will be open just before 10.30 to let you in and guide you upstairs to the meeting room. Some of the session will be outside as this project is about taking inspiration from the Park and landscape, so please dress judiciously for the June weather, the mad March weather or the strange September weather.  Please bring your own pens/pencils, paper and clipboards (if needed) for outside activities.

The workshops are free to attend, although we ask for donations towards tea and coffee.

You can book by calling 0116 236 2713 extension 25 between 11 and 3.30 any day, or  by visiting our Visitor Centre. We will run a reserve list and we do ask if you cannot attend you advise us.  Sorry, but please do not email bookings to myself or Kerry as we are unable to process these.
