FEVER at Loughborough l Focus series

Carlie EdeCarlie Ede tells us all about FEVER society, one of the quirkiest and most photogenic societies on campus. With impressive displays of skill, you’ll be sure to see them performing at the annual Societies Fair!

What is FEVER about?

FEVER is Loughborough University’s spinning and circus society. We cover a huge range of skills and activities, including: juggling (balls, clubs and rings), staff, poi, diabolo, hoop, stilt walking and even fire performance, available to a wide range of skill levels from complete beginner to professional.

Ever wanted to try something new, or just to meet some new people? Then this is the place for you!

What sorts of events are put on by the society?

FEVER runs 3 sessions every week (Wednesday, Friday and Sunday), which allow you to come and perfect all the new skills you are learning, as well as running regular burn sessions, I mean who doesn’t want to be able to play with fire!!

On top of this, we take part in several performances throughout the year both within the University and externally.

Socials throughout the year are also a must, and in our spare time, we like to travel around the country and visit different juggling conventions.

So, no matter what your skills, there is always something for everyone to take part in.

Why, when and how did you join?

I joined the societies at the freshers’ bazaar in my first year. Before moving to Loughborough I had recently started juggling and soon realised how many different skills there are to learn, so I was very keen to join from the very beginning.

I found the society through their website.

Best or most memorable moments from your time with the society?

Juggling conventions and workshops have been one of my favourite memories, I love the ability to share and receive so much information to be able to improve your own skill.

Although, my absolute favourite moment was watching one of our previous chairs, Callum Lawrie, win a societies stripe at the society awards. After being chair for 3 years, he really put his heart and soul into the society and it was a pleasure to see him rewarded.

Describe your society in three words!

Family, Fun, Excitement.

Last word – what would you say to someone thinking of joining up?

Do it, it will be the best decision you make.
