We hear from Jasmine, Chair of the Cocktail Society. She talks about what life as a member is like, and the different events members get involved in. If you’d like to learn the art of cocktail making, then this society might be the gin to your tonic!

What is your society all about?

Cocktail Society is the society which enjoys making cocktails just as much as drinking them! Our committee are dedicated to making sure everyone is learning new bar skills and techniques, tasting new flavours and having a great time experiencing the cocktail night life of Loughborough (and beyond), while meeting some new people along the way.

What sort of events are put on by the society?

We have a variety of events including themed socials, masterclasses in cocktail bars and joint socials with other societies. It’s not all about drinking though! We often host sober socials where we make mocktails and we take part in society sports where we can. We’re even in the process of planning our Christmas meal!

Why, when and how did you join?

I joined the society at the start of my second year, when one of my friends from another society encouraged me to go along to the give it a go session. I quickly became friends with the committee members and bought my membership later that evening!

Cocktail Soc is so much more than just getting merry with a few cocktails, it’s about the friends you make and the skills you can learn.

What have been some of the society’s memorable events from the past year?

Earlier this year, we teamed up with members of Rock Soc and hosted a joint social at laser quest in town. In traditional Cocktail style, we then had a few cocktails at The Kelso afterwards. It was great to be doing something different and so much fun joining with another society, especially as a lot of members knew each other already.

What would you say to someone considering joining?

We welcome all ranges of skill whether you have cocktail making skills already or have never tried more than putting vodka with orange juice. We’re a friendly group of people who know how to have a good time and welcome anyone and everyone to our society. So if you’re considering it, don’t hesitate to join as we also get awesome deals with bars in town!
