Want to get involved with an up-and-coming society? The fun and sociable LSU Dart Society, Winner of Best New Society 2015, might be right up your street! We caught up with Rob Piesse, Vice Chairman of LSU Darts, to find out what this society has been up to, how they made such an impact and what their plans are for the future.

What is LSU Darts about?

LSU Darts is a society open to everyone with much more than just darts on offer. With league matches every week, regular socials, practice sessions, massive annual events, varsity fixtures, inter-society competitions, Soc Sport teams, trips to international events and a wardrobe of stash available, LSU Darts is a fantastic society to join – even if you’ve never touched a dart in your life!

When did LSU Darts start?

The LSU society was founded in September 2014 by me (Rob Piesse) – so the start of this term is its three year anniversary!

What have been some of your most memorable events from this last year (2015-2014)?

The LSU Darts Championship 2015 was by far the best event we’d organised and was awarded LSU Outstanding Event of the Year 2015. This event took everything you’d see at the PDC World Championships at Alexandra Palace and put it into Room 1 for one night!
Another memorable event was the LSU Darts Challenge Cup vs. Penketh Tavern Tigerswan – an inaugural invitation event where the LSU Darts team invited Penketh Tavern Tigers (from Warrington) to Loughborough for a series of matches in a ‘Ryder Cup’ style event. The event was a huge success.

What are your plans for the future of LSU Darts?

The sky really is the limit and we have loads of fresh and exciting ideas in the pipeline. We want to organise trips to international events, starting by taking a bus full of Loughborough students down to the World Darts Championships.

We’re also hoping to set up and run IMS Darts leagues, giving everybody at the University the chance to compete for their halls of residence.

As a long term goal, we want to setup the very first BUCS Darts League. Due to its growing publicity, darts is becoming increasingly popular among students; we believe it should be available on the University Stage, especially because it’s such an attractive spectator sport.

What would you say to someone thinking about joining LSU Darts?

Just go for it. You will have an incredible time and meet some great new friends, creating unforgettable moments.
Secondly, it’s only £10 for membership, which includes all of the above in a once in a lifetime experience package as well as a FREE set of LSU Darts Flights and Wristband. This also gets you free entry to all LSU Darts Events throughout the year.

Finally, what’s one take away fact/bit of info you want us to know about you, LSU Darts?

LSU Darts Society really is a place for anyone and everyone, of all abilities and there are plenty of opportunities to support, watch, play, practice and organise events within the society.
