Pole Fitness Society l Focus Series

Libby, the promo rep for Pole Fitness Society tells us all about her experience. If you’re interested in improving your fitness or you want to enter competitions and showcases – Pole may be for you!

What is Pole Fitness Society all about?

We hold Pole Fitness lessons each week, ranging in experience from beginner to advance, as well as flexibility classes twice a week. We work on anything from flow and floorwork to splits and spins.

We pride ourselves on our diversity. When I first started I could barely hold myself up – let alone climb the pole! But with the support of the instructors and other members I can climb to the top without falling on my face anymore.

What sort of events are put on by the society?

As well as our weekly lessons and classes, at the end of each term we hold group lessons to get everyone to try something new.

We host an annual competition, as well as entering other competitions and showcases. And we go to SportsVest each year – any excuse for us to show off our skills!

Why, when and how did you join?

I knew I wanted to try Pole Fitness for a few years before coming to university, but I could never afford the transport to my nearest center, so when I found out Loughborough had a Pole Fitness Society and lessons were held on campus, I couldn’t wait to sign up.

I joined in my first year, I didn’t even need to attend the free sessions in give it a go week to know I wanted to join!

Best or most memorable moments from your time in the society?

The most memorable moments for me have to be the showcase and SportsVest. It was amazing seeing so much talent and getting to see different pole artists and be taught by new people.

Describe your society in three words…

Supportive, friendly and hilarious.

What would you say to someone considering joining?

Come on down to the free sessions in give it a go week and you will soon learn that the sport is highly addictive!
