Mini camcorders – more available

October 8, 2010General, Video Standard

Pic of Kodak Zi8 mini camcorderVideo can be used in many ways to support learning, not least through the use of automated video lecture capture which we’ve covered in many posts on this blog recently.

If you’re looking to produce something ‘quick and dirty’, for instance a short video introduction to a topic, or video feedback on assignments (which a number of colleagues have been trying out), we now have the ideal equipment for the purpose available on loan.

The Kodak Zi8 is about the size of a mobile phone but creates very good quality video clips, especially when combined with the miniature tabletop tripod and external tie-clip microphone included in our kits. Clips can be very easily transferred across to your PC then uploaded to Learn.

These kits are already proving to be very popular, so much so that we’ve just ordered another 4 taking our total fleet to 14.  As I write, 2 of the existing kits are flying out to China and Poland, and colleagues are coming up with interesting new ways in which they can support both teaching and research projects.

If you’d like to try one out, drop by the E-learning Office in the Library (next to the cafe).
